What happened to this 17 Tacoma??

Looks like they used 1 supplier for paint and another for the clear. Two different types won’t bond to each other. I had it on my Tundra once

 

Those are some weird wind-tunnel looking patterns. I remember a bunch of GM trucks in the late 80s in San Bernardino that we're made with low / no UV inhibitor in the paint and it flaked off on the sun facing horizontal surfaces, but not in this pattern that seems to follow wind over the top of the truck.

Not denying an issue with BBP, but this looks like someone who does a lot of freeway driving thru the high desert.

 

As someone who does a lot of freeway driving in the high deserts of CA and NV, I can confirm that this is a paint defect limited to certain trucks. My BBP truck has 0 issues.

 

Any vehicle that keeps driving through a sand storm instead of parking and waiting for it to subside will have the same results...seen it many times from newer Mercedes and Honda Civics. Non specific to manufacturer, including aircraft. In a rush to get somewhere, ignorance of blowing sand and driving at higher speeds is no different from commercial sand blasting. If you raised the hood and pulled the air cleaner element....see for yourself an easy diagnose.

 

Sounds fine for ONE part of the country. Problem is that, if you look back to the previous posts of trucks with this same issue, you will see (I hope) that these BBP Double cab problems have been seen in parts of the country where there is no sand storms. It sort of deflates your theory.

 

There was a thread awhile back that mentioned where the trucks were built that may have an impact on the paint quality. I think one factory was just outside of the border in Mexico and those trucks were showing wear on the paint but it was only on the super-whites. Something to do with only having one layer. I wonder if that is the same case for these.

 

Yeah I give up. I think I’ve commented 5 times now that it’s not a result of where the driver lives but people just want to read the first post of the thread and then immediately comment.

 

I always liked patinas. Also great for deterring thieves.

Toyota says "normal" on a lot of bullshit. I remember a few years back where they had a warranty enhancement affecting the 2.0L 2AZ-FE found in a lot of models like Camry's, Corolla's, Solara's, Rav4's, TC's and XB's for excessive oil consumption and Toyota deemed it "normal" to lose 1 quart of oil in a 1000 mile interval.

So basically if you're losing a quart of oil in 1K miles and drive 12-15K miles a year, it's normal to have consumed 12-15 quarts of oil.

With Toyota's calculation, the cars should have no oil before they reached their oil change intervals.

 

Don't really know what MJK drives but it could be. He does own a vineyard and do farm shit.

 

For the record, Toyota never said this was normal. The BBP trucks that have the bad batch of clear have gotten repainted.

 

From what I found out, not sure if true, Toyot is buying THIS vehicle back and the owner left the dealer in a new Tacoma. This one will either be repaired, or sold at auction.

reliability is measured quality over time......similiar to the MTBF and MTTF.....but i do somewhat agree that quality is usually perceived by the average buyer as anything that goes wrong anytime......(nuts , bolts, screws. rattles, squeaks, leaks, lights and electronics.....

Holy God wonder if he lived out in the middle of the sand dunes? The only other Toyta color that seems to tarnish fade is the white after 20 or so years it looses it luster.
