I've owned a couple of 2WD Tacos and loved them. Now I've taken the plunge with a 2019 TRD 4WD. I've been many places on dirt roads requiring high ground clearance. Getting read to go off road.

Offroading and destroying vehicles is part of it. Lots of good info out there, never go out alone, start very basic and work your way up. Trust me, I have rolled 4 vehicle's. Destroyed Tacoma.

Yikes!! How many thousands of feet did it roll? Fortunately I found a local 4WD club, so there is help. And the Taco salesman and his sales manager are both avid 4-wheelers; they are taking me under their wing. I've been in the right seat of Jeep's, ATVs (Polaris Rzr was the most fun) and a couple of TRDs off roading. Lots of fun. BTW, I showed my wife your photo, and she responded, "how much life insurance are you buying"

So I've had this shiny new 2019 TRD for less than a day, and already put 150 miles on it, several on a washboard dirt road (I drive it several times a week). I've noticed 2 things. The suspension is a lot better than the 2018 SR5 I traded, I hardly noticed the bumps on the washboard. Also, the low speed shifting is a lot better when accelerating at low speed: I don't have to turn on ECT to get it to comfortably downshift. I acts like a normal transmission should.

What's the latest on Taco break-in? I was thinking of heading out tomorrow over Redington Pass Road, if any of all y'all know where that is. It's easily handled in a high clearance 2WD, but plenty rutted and torn up in spots. It will probably take me 2 hours on the rutted part, up over the top and down the other side, before I hit smooth dirt road. A lot of the driving will be at slow speed. The manual says to avoid continuous driving in low gears for the first 1000 miles. Don't want to cause any problems down the road due to poor brake-in practice.

Went out for a short drive, maybe 2 hours on a soft sand/dirt road with some hills. Did a little 4-wheeling, nothing serious; a little sand and soft dirt and some hills. But fun for me. And found a few trails that will need to be explored when I get a bit more proficient. It didn't get over 80 deg. Then lunch at a small Mexican place in Winkleman, AZ on my way home. Even made a $5 profit at a casino when I stopped for a break. Then the car wash. All in all a lot of fun and can't wait to do more, next time a bit [IMG]
