XC/Trail/All mountain. The one bike to do it all. Southeast terrain; flowy XC, technical, rocky, rooty, etc. Pretty much anything aside from full on DH or Enduro. Pisgah and Asheville NC is the most harsh terrain in ride.

I’m not a racer, just a relatively fit mid 30s dad that likes to think he’s fast.

oh yeah i see what you mean.. 120/110 is pretty small, perfect for XC. 130/120 on a 29er is really a fantastic size bike and i would call that the lower side of trail/doeverythingbutDH

Yup. My riding 70% of the time would be what most folks would consider straight up XC. The other 30% is in more trail/all mountain terrain where a XC travel bike can be used, but more travel is always better there.

Anyone looking to up their drivetrain to 12 speed? If you have a regular ole splined shimano 8/9/10 speed freehub body... Im looking to get rid of my lightly used NX Eagle setup. Its still on my bike, but im going to be removing it tonight or tomorrow.

    NX Eagle 12 speed shifter
    NX Eagle 12speed Cassette
    Eagle 12 speed Chain
    NX Eagle 12 speed Derailleur

Its not as lightweight as xx1, but is reliable and gives you great range. Super cost effective solution to those who are not looking to change out their freehub body on their rear wheel to the XD driver. Works with the old school standard shimano splined freehub.

All you would need is a narrow-wide chain ring and a shifter cable. Which can be had on the cheap

This would be dope. Im upgrading my Jeffsy from 140 to 150 down the road, I ride the same types of trails you do here in west TN. I ride with a lot of guys on xc bikes, and while they are a little faster than me on the flats and climbs, I bomb the levees and short downhill sections with ease and tons of speed lol.

That would be a ripper for sure, the downside is no dropper, but has the internal routing spots already there so tossing one on there wouldnt be an issue. That bike is a beast

Damn. There’s one in the picture. Had me sucked in for a second.

Been chatting with a shop on pink bike. They could order a Rocky Mountain Instinct for right at $3k. It’d be the base alloy 50 model, but I’ve had Rocky’s before. Super solid bikes.

Haha yeah that had me confused too, SC was my second choice after YT when i was bike shopping. I honestly think that instinct would be perfect. 140mm travel seems to be perfect for the xcish trailish stuff I ride. I am only trying to go 150 to get the fox 36 and try getting into more jumps and what not. That instinct also has GX too

hard to go wrong, all newer bikes are pretty sweet. the new tech/geometry has been growing in leaps and bounds and makes such a big difference. they can get away with what was formerly reserved for DH bikes on an "aggressive XC bike". hell, even 160mm bikes do it all well

It is very tempting. I’m under no illusions, the Bronson is extreme over kill for my area. Not to sound conceited but I’m confident in my legs and lungs to move that thing around without too much difficulty. My rei dividend check that’s still in hand would cover a 1up dropper. The rest of the build is tolerable for a bit.

I do love me some rocky though.

And I really love not spending more than truly needed so those used options are very much on the table.
