Mine qualified on the 6th of February after corporate got involved. The 31st of January was my last day. The special ordered parts kits took the longest. The frame arrived in about 5wks.

    Ooooohhhh where do I begin....

They first tried to give it back to me with a major misfire and a loose pin at the ECU plug was to blame. They called me up said it's ready, nope not this time. Then it was a loose pin at another plug. It took 3 times for them to fix a problem that wasn't there when I dropped it off. Problems caused by someone being too rough with the plugs that need to be unplugged to remove the cab from the frame etc.

Finally they got it right, drove it home and 2 days later the truck starts to pull to the right. They didn't torque down the nut eccentric on the lower control arm and now I've got a flattened cam tab on a brand new frame.

Just got mine done. Was suprised that Toyota covered everything. Didnt have to pay a penny, even got a rental for the whole time. I was pretty satisfied with the whole experience.

So the dealer told me that they have to charge me 3 hours labor to take off and compress the old springs off the old struts to put on the new 5100 struts. $135 an hour. Sounds excessive! Anybody have an idea of how long that should really take?

2 shocks removal and reinstalled, I can see an hour at least, no more than 2 imo. Realistically an hour but I see see it running up to 1.5 and they'll charge you for 2. They've already got them off the truck so they may also be trying to charge you labor on the install removal from vehicle also, not just the spring swap from struts to struts.

Well the uninstall and reinstall of the struts should be free, covered under the frame recall. So I guess I'm only looking for the amount of time you think it should take to compress the old spring onto the new struts

Sorry I some how left that part out of my first sentence. :bananadead:

It should read "2 shocks with coil spring removal and reinstall, I can see an hour at least, no more than 2 imo."

It's pretty much a 20-30min job per strut. unless they're using a Chinese mouse trap spring compressor, they just have to insert the assembled strut, compress the spring, remove top hat, swap out the old strut, in goes the new one reinstall the top hat and reseat the coil spring. Bam 1 done in less than 30min, but that's just me. :notsure:

Yeah, sounds excessive. I can do it in 30-45 minutes per side with one of those suicide spring compressors. It should take a pro with a real spring compressor less than an hour to do both sides.

I just brought my truck in the other day, they took pics and sent them out to toyota. Still waiting to hear back from the dealership whether toyota approved the frame or not. Mines a 2wd 05 and its got a massive rot hole near the driver side control arm. Im assuming its still covered under the frame campaign til may 21st 2019. The service writer said that only the CRC coating is til may 21st. So i am still confused whether or not the settlement is still active and covered. However the writer said he was submitting the pics and information to Toyota anyways. Anyone have a similar incident?

For frame rust it's 12 years from the date the truck was first put into service.

This is just for the application of the CRC. They will not replace your frame if it's past the 12 year date.
