Disclaimer: I haven't done this particular install for this particular snorkel brand but I did install my safari snorkel by myself like a big boy.

That said, from the looks of it, the oblong hole where it connects up to your air box might be a potential point for leaks. Over time, the oblong hole may develop an hourglass shape and allow water to penetrate through those openings. I've seen where people make a type of spacer that holds the gap open preventing it from collapsing. I'm guessing that you could make this spacer out of a section of PVC pipe cut to length. From the looks of it, it seems like it might be 2" or so. Additionally, if it has a type of cinch clamp that goes around the rubber boot, I would put a bead of silicone around the lip to help prevent water intrusion.

When it comes time to make the big cut, measure and remeasure, then double check your measurements. Buy a big enough hole saw, use painters tape over the fender. If you have fender flares, it might behoove you to remove them prior to cutting metal or tape up that seam so that shavings don't fall in between the flare and your body panel. It may scratch up your paint. Use a punch and start your holes with a small bit so that your ginormous hole saw doesn't wander on you. Use a step bit for the other mount holes. Start smaller than what you think you'll need and expand up. Check for fitment and expand up until you get to the size that works for you. My thinking is that you can always take away more, its difficult to put metal back. I haven't done my A-pillar mounts yet. I'm nervous about that one but one day, I'll have to tackle that one. Center punch those holes first. Start small and work up to the size you need. I'm planning on putting a bead of silicone or RTV in the hole before I push the plastic expansion mounts through the hole. Once I'm satisfied with the goop, I'll pea a small amount (in my pants too) in the hole and attach the L-angle mount to the A-pillar. Should keep water intrusion into the pillar to a minimum. As a safety sally, I'll remove the plastic Oh-Shit handle and trim to make sure that there aren't any wires in place that I might accidentally drill through (that would be bad, mmmkay). Once the L-angle is in place, a little dab of RTV/silicone on the inside would help to contain the water intrusion. Ultimately, I want to keep the water outside the vehicle, if I'm plugging a hole on the inside, it means the water is already there - rusting important bits. Last thing, touch up paint for all of your holes (on the truck too). Keep that metal clean and painted.

To me that one seems "germ-y" the cub scouts do a sleep over on it, but I never have, lol. It is only painted nice on one side- the other side looks awful!

There is another WW2 carrier in San Diego; its nice- LOTS of money goes into it.. Still need to see this battleship and the Iowa class battleship in Norfolk!

Me and the Kiddo went to the Aquarium at Fort Fisher then to the battleground and drove around down there. We get our beach driving fix up at the N. Topsail Island inlet. They allow beach driving all yr because it's sectioned off for surf fishing.

We take the scouts down there and sleep on the ship that's a lot of fun too. Just don't go in the restricted areas you'll get in trouble, don't ask me how I know.

Side note the scouts got to see one of the actual A-6 Intruders the scoutmaster flew over Vietnam recently on a trip that was really cool for them. He has one of the tail hooks off that plane hanging in his garage.

So there are a few threads on here about doing it. IIRC you have to do some trimming of the snorkel for it to fit the fender nicer.

I know it won’t be perfect... I’m getting it for functionality and not to make my truck look pretty.

 I actually like the slimmer look of the hilux ones over the ones for the tacoma even if the fit isn't perfect.

I’ve noticed that it’s...eh...”diverse”, up this way. I’m used to staying in surfside in the camp grounds. The house we are staying at is in a upscale neighborhood though.

Years ago (pre kids), my wife was at a teacher’s conference there & I spent much of the full conference say on the ship.
One of the maintenance guys gave me a “tour” of unrestored bits, with lots of info I didn’t know.
Ex- every door on every bulkhead has a code, where you can tell how far back, what deck, & how far port or starboard from ship centerline you are. There are also many codes for what compartments were built for.
I found the small vintage graffiti on the lower decks fascinating too.

He showed me where the ship’s original name was engraved near the keel. It was laid down as Bon Homme Richard (no de plume of Ben Franklin & a traditional US Navy ship name, starting with John Paul Jones’s French built frigate- It means “Good Man Richard” & stems from Franklin’s work- Poor Richard’s Almanac), but was renamed after the CV-5 Yorktown was sunk in the Battle of Midway & the original name was shifted to a different Essex class carrier.

There’s lead paint peeling, exposed wiring, rust, random ladders & openings, sharp bits galore. I can see why they DO NOT want random people down there. One uncareful person could get a major gash or fall & break their bodies REALLY easy.
If I was them, I’d get REAL pissy about people wandering off the tourist areas.

We were like 13-14 and 3 of us ventured off into the depths of the ship it was really neat. I have some pictures some where I took with one of those disposable cameras of all the stuff we saw. The scoutmaster being a 25 yr navy vet told us how to find our way around via the codes you are talking about.

I am soooooo thankful that the mod bug for the jeep hasn't hit me yet. Lots of great bumpers, lifts, accessories out there.

Still digging it just the way it is.

Cribs are here. Holy shit these things are way better than I ever imagined. And SOLID. Easily 200lbs a piece.

So much thought and work went into them.

    They'll be around for generations.

    I wish I had my father's craftsmanship.
