Regarding sliders, what are these numbers I've seen some people post: 0* --or-- 5* --or-- 30* ?

Are these how much of an angle the slider itself is canted up from the supporting tubing that attaches the slider rails to the frame? Never having had sliders before, is there a rule of thumb of what is the best angle? 0° would be straight out, parallel to the ground, correct? 5° would be canted up a little, and 30° would be canted up, what -- the most you could?

I don't want missile fins (aka wings) on my truck, but with a 3" lift, something usable as a little bit of a step would be nice. I plan on rattle canning them, and figure I can mask off an area for stepping and spray with some sort of gritty stuff giving better purchase as a foot hold. Also, I do not think I want "plates" or whatever the term is, welded in between the rails. The primary purpose of my getting sliders is to protect the truck on the trail, not look kewl in the mall parking lot.

Leanings towards having Foothills Fab do the work, unless y'all convince me he welds for sheeeitt.

    What hasn't been modified?
Your correct, it’s the angle at which the curve up from then main tube.
If your gonna use them as steps to access the roof racks then 0-5* wound be best. But I’d your just going for armor then it’s around 20* and even then you can still use them as a step to access the roof, it’s just harder on your foot.

I refer to mine as bat wings . They have helped me brush off rocks or trees on trail that got close to the bed side.

No matter how many degrees you rotate a round tube you're still going to be standing on the same contact patch with your foot... Unless you're standing on the leg between the main tube and outer.

Hey, do you think there is a 3rd gen market for custom hydraulic, folding steps that automagically fold out from underneath the slider when the door is opened, or the remote keyfob button is pressed? Could even bling them up with some red, green, blue, or purple LED's outlining the landing zone for the foot... Maybe even offer them heated (@Stig) to avoid the slider-impression-on-ass event mid winter...
