Anyone else think the 6speed is clunkier than 5speed?

I saw a post a while back about a mod for the clutch. There is a dampener of some type that makes the clutch "hang". It's a reducer or something that supposedly engages at the wrong times.
The mod is to remove it from the fluid path making it like an old fashioned clutch

You're talking about the clutch accumulator. It damps the hydraulics to make the pedal less sensitive, slower to respond. It's on my list of things to mod as well but I have not done it. I have a short hose I plan to use to replace it.

That sounds interesting. I'd be interested to see what you think of it afterward.

This is the part I bought: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ear-63080812erl

Again, I have not actually installed it so I'm not positive it fits or works.

I was reading about TOB stuff and ran across it. I'm definitely doing it, I feel like my clutch dosent want to engage at the same friction point sometimes it's pretty annoying.

I haven't really noticed a rev hang issue with my truck, but I do deliberately shift it slow. My other daily driver is a 6speed TSX, and the rev hang issue is terrible on that car but I fixed it with software.
My clutch grabs really high in my truck, plan on bleeding the clutch to see if that helps.....given I'm on the stock clutch at 114K so we shall see.
This clutch accumulator sounds interesting. (Edit) I knew that sounded familiar, I was looking at this thread the other night.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/clutch-accumulator-delete-kit-fits-2005-2019-mt-tacomas.583387/
Ummm $52 for two fittings and a short little steel line.o_O I'll keep my mouth shut....
I ordered a TRD short shifter and new seat to see if that smooths out the shifts a little. Also going to try a different transmission fluid, haven't the slightest clue whats in it now.
    Bought the truck last week.

I deleted my accumulator today and really like the outcome. I now have to unlearn the clutch timing I had to learn to drive the truck smoothly in the first place.

Between the Pedal Commander, Redline MT90 (+ a little Lucas) and the accumulator delete the truck almost drives the way it should have from the factory. Still prefer it to an automatic :)

What he said. I am in 6th by 40 and rarely need to downshift unless I need to accelerate.

Good to hear to had success with your setup.
I installed my TRD short shifter, weighted shift knob, and new Marlin Crawler shifter bushing seat yesterday. It's still clunky, but the shifts are just really short now, which is too be expected. I'm probably going to swap back in my stock shifter bushing seat, this Marlin Crawler is made of delrin and it really makes the shifts stiff. It's harder getting my truck into reverse now.
The accumulator delete and fluid change is next on my list.
Picked up the brake line and fittings yesterday.

I did the accumulator delete yesterday. That made a world of difference with engaging the clutch smoothing out the shifts.
Next is trans fluid change, still deciding on what I’m going to use.

When I had my 14 6spd I really missed my 80’s w56 5spds. I eventually figured out shifting around 2800-3200 rpm led to the best feeling shifts.

The worst part of that trans is attempting to downshift into first while in stop and go traffic.

Yeah if you're going faster than 5mph the entire truck shakes.

Does anyone know the fitting sizes on the accumulator delete hose? I have access to a hose maker at work, just need fitting sizes.

I have only owned two automatics in 57 years of driving, Mack triplex, 13 spd tractors, 512 Berninata Boxers, Lambo Countach, 5 spd Toyotas 6 speed Toyotas it's not the gear box.

Rev hang is super handy if you're towing or hauling or doing both at the same time.

On 2nd gens you only really need a $4 coupler strictly speaking. The two lines come together close enough that they *could* be bent to join with it.

    https://www.napaonline.com/p/BK_6415027

I bought a short brake line to join mine (eventually) because I didn't want to bend the hydraulic lines in case I wanted to go back to the stock configuration for some reason and I don't like manhandling the plumbing for fear of kinking it trying to unbend it.

Ideally there'd be a 90 degree coupler to eliminate the accumulator on 05-15 but I haven't found one yet.

    Thank you sir!

This in a nutshell. I've heard somewhere that the 6 spd really is geared and ran the way it is due to towing and hauling. No idea if that's true or not but it makes sense. Towing a trailer I can tell you that you do not have to shift as often.

This makes sense since the RA60 is an Aisin AY6 and is shared with several road cars, the Cadillac CTS, Chevy Camaro, and so is a fairly close ratio in the middle of the range (2nd to 5th are 2.19, 1.49, 1.19, 1.00) and doesn't have a super tall overdrive 6th at 0.85. It's 1st is 4.17, so not exceptionally low either. My feeling is it's not the best spread for a truck, since it's neither really biased to be low nor high (the FJ Cruiser version got a 0.75 6th, which would be nice for MPG).

But I don't tow and never really have so I don't have any experience to compare. I kind of wish 4th was 1:1 and they gave us two overdrives. If not that then a lower 1st and 2nd would be good.
