I use the dealer service for first 25k miles just for warranty purposes. After that I do it myself.

I decided to bring it in and am at the dealer now. Guy seemed surprised when I told him I skipped the 5k, maybe not many do? He said it wasn't a big deal though. The service guy also said there is a recall on the mm wave sensor radar that @Thegenerik1 mentioned so they're doing today as well.

I'll be doing my own QC later today as @Tacoma3rdGen suggested and will post updates later today. *fingers crossed no issues. :fingerscrossed:

You have already paid for the free service when you bought your truck...if you want to pay for it again...do it. The Toyota dealer record shows on your car fax when you get ready to trade in or sell.

I tell my Toyota service person to record what not to touch...tires, etc.. My truck at 10k had "0" on the squawk list so I told them not to do anything without my permission except change oil to Mobil One and filter (free)....

NOTE: One year or 10k miles...the one year oil/filter is date of manufacture, not date of sale !! Most folks with new vehicles with less than 10k miles believe the one year is date of purchase...NO!

Im surprised to hear that... they're doing the service anyway, it's been almost exactly one year since I bought it and I'm at 98xx miles today.

I wonder what the threshold is for the minimum time and or mileage for performing the 10k and 20k service

When I bought mine a month ago, I honestly could have cared less about the Toyotacare thing,as I like my own mechanic locally. It is much easier to go to my local mechanic that taking the truck to a dealer, and then either having to wait, or arrange for rides, etc. BUT, having said all of this, the rotating and balancing of the tires makes it worth it to me, since that can run around $80 here in northern California. Couple that with a regular oil change running $59, and all of a sudden, the "free" Toyotacare is looking pretty good. My dealer also does appointments and they are pretty right on, especially in dealing with routine things like this, so I will probably take mine in to them when the time comes. I am also somewhat concerned about if anything else happens to come up later on, and I want to make sure the dealer will take care of it then.

It is definitely value added unless they make a mistake like scratch the paint or overtighten the oil filter. Will you take it in for the six month/5k service?

I have to look in detail at what is done then. If they rotate the tires then, I will take it in, otherwise, I will probably just take it to my local mechanic that is within walking distance of my home. Toyota is ok with someone else doing these things, and they will accept them "stamping" it in the manual as being done.

Tire rotation is included in the 5k and a "multipoint" inspection, that's it.

No balancing of tires, just a simple rotation is all that's included, then you should also check your tire pressure when they finish in case the overfilled them.

BFFord: The original oil/filter was not changed during make ready when you purchased your car....it was factory installed which may be a few months more or less, prior to your purchase. Your second and future services of course will be from the date/mileage when you had it done.

Average time on lot for a Tacoma is 24 days. Add a week or so for ship. Date of sale versus mff is a non worry.

I check my oil before I leave the dealership for peace of mind. I don't mind getting my oil changed at the dealership once a year. Wish I could go 10,000 miles between oil changes but it would take me 4 or 5 years to get 10,000 miles on my truck. So I'll stick with the once a year oil change. I guess.

This is true. My truck was built SEP of 2018 and I bought it OCT 24, 2018. Toyota was sending me reminders for my 6 month service in FEB & MAR 2019. I just waited till I owned the truck 6 months on the 24th of APR and took it in that day. Just because my truck the only miles on it were when the dealer went to St. Louis and drove it back to the dealership. (142 miles.)

It was to be included in my 6 month check-up but I told them not to do it because the truck had less than 2,000 miles on it.

Alright, had a chance to check over the truck and everything looks ok. They did adjust my seat  but otherwise no issue.

I checked the tires and I believe they did do the rotation, no obvious blemishes on the lugs themselves. Skid plate was secure and oil plug and filter looked good, level full. They did not adjust my tire pressure at all (I know because they're currently slightly over inflated and they were still that way when I got back home. It took just about an hour.

All in all I am glad I brought it in, might still skip the 15k appointment though. Interestingly enough, the dealer put my next oil service at 5k miles. I'm wondering what's that about, are they trying to get me to bring it in to pay for that myself? The oil change would've cost me $97 including shop fees and the like w/o toyotacare, seems steep. On the inspection paperwork everything was green flagged.
