Might anyone have an idea on how to fix a small section of weatherstrip? On the bottom on the driver’s side, I have 8 to 10 inches that is worn out, but the rest of it is in really good shape, as is the passenger side. I priced a full replacement at a local Toyota dealership, $100+, just can’t see spending that much to fix such a small section. Thinking of filling it with spray in foam, then covering it with something. TIA...2404CCDA-1A91-42BD-BC5D-3DC00F26E7BF.jpg

Coincidentally, I just ordered a new door seal 62312-04020 for my 1999 EC from McGeorge https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/ for $121.94.

On some of my other cars, I can scavenge good door seal from a salvage yard. Not enough Tacomas in salvage yards to create a find.

I've been able to keep door seals healthy for a long time by using a product from Japan named Shin-Etsu. It's just under $20 on Amazon.

A trunk seal might be the same? From a salvage yard. Or rear door seal from a newer car?

Same issue here. Might just order one from Toyota. I'm the only one who sees it, :notsure:.

Just a heads up. The passenger side will work on the driver's side.

I think you ordered something completely different.
    62312-04020 is 121.00 when I checked.

That's right. I also ordered 62312-04020 from McGeorge https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/ for $121.94. Post deleted.

my drivers side is beginning to show a tad bit of wear from my foot sliding over past 2 decades ... I have been very careful not to drag me feet into truck :( so its not as bad as OP (yet) I have some other issues inside my fender wheel wells I need to figure out how to tackle first

... If the rest of your cab interior is in ..... condition?

Rest of interior is in very good condition, nothing I’d really want to replace. Just this one spot on the weatherstrip. Might have to eventually pay for a new one, haven’t noticed and water leaks yet.

If you want to go cheap, you could likely find a vehicle at the salvage yard that has a much larger door opening and cut one to length to fit your truck. Just measure the body flange thickness and height on the truck and take some calipers with you to the yard.

Other cheap ideas: black duct tape; switch pass side and make repair on that side; black silicone caulk (put filler material inside first for backer for caulking, then smooth before drying).

You should be able to pull it off and move the repaired area to a low traffic spot, but you may have to add some adhesive since the opening in the W/S may be flared where it is over some of the thicker section were body panels stack up. Basically, unless you add sealer, it may be loose in some areas after rotating it.

I have one needing the same repair. I will try one of "cheap ideas :anonymous: " and post the results. I am wanting to go to the salvage yard in the next few days, so I'll give that idea a try. Mine is bad enough that I may just cut a section and take it with me for comparison//fit testing.

That's about all there is to it..

I like to let mine sit in the sun to warm up so it's easy to fit into place after being in a package.

peel a little of the one you have out of the groove and then mash it back in... you'll
see how easy the whole thing is. There's a little bit of plastic down by your foot you'll have
to take a couple of screws out of... that's it...
