so i was trimming around my AC unit and i got a little too close to a wire and it got caught up in the trimmer head. the wire is a brown jacket wire with several smaller colored wires inside, i think it is the wire that goes back to the thermostat in the house.

i thought i saw a couple of sparks and below is how it looks now. seems to be working fine but the yellow wire looks cut, not sure if it was already like that or not. any thoughts?

+1 on shut down and splice.

Yes it is the theromstat circurt. Yellow maybe a heater control, so you would not see a problem with AC. There is a circurt that runs between the two so you don't run both at the same time.

...and take some ties and secure it to the other lines so its not as vulnerable to damage in the future.

It looks like he pulled the wires out of the box. Opening up the box and putting the wires back on is easy, if flu know where they go.
Just make sure you pull the disconnect before you open it up.
I still say to call for service.

As paintdiddy said, cut and resplice, probably also wanna heat shrink it to seal it from corrosion.

Get some round up, kill the grass, then put down some mulch/pinestraw/ground cover/ etc. around the AC unit then you won't have that problem in the future. Less Trimming to do. I don't have any grass touching my house, makes trimming a lot easier.
