Better get used to it. OVT has a posse of fan boys here who won’t tolerate any hint of criticism, even if OVT has earned it.

 

Because OVTune has always done his best to supply a good product in timely fashion. I've waited, no complaints,truck is way better.

 

I wouldn’t call it a “posse of fan boys” I think there’s just a lot more people who love the product than those who don’t. Regardless I would say Matt takes all criticism seriously or we wouldn’t have consistent updates.

 

Depends on what you consider timely. Also my truck is not way better. Better, yes. More power, yes. Way better. No.

Just follow the link Texaslaw posted. Download the correct CUW file for your truck. Disconnect from internet, connect to truck, press start button twice w/o foot on brake so you are in ignition mode with truck not running. Double click on the file and follow the onsreen instructions. Turn truck off when prompted, remove cable, then start your truck.

 

2018 4x4 AT Limited. Have owned Toyota trucks since 1983. Sold a low miles 2010 4DR 4x4 for my 2018. Wished I had kept my 2010 . I can't believe what a POS this new truck is because of the f'd up engine and transmission characteristics. I have been running OVTune since 1.03 and am currently running 1.05 base 91. The tune definitely helps, but it is NOT a cure-all.

The primary problem is the transmission gears and the TCU (how the transmission wants to shift). The ABSOLUTE biggest problem is the wide gap between 4th and 5th gears. 1st thru 4th gears have nice even steps between gears. From 4th to 5th it's like going up a "gear and a half". It bogs the engine unless you are aggressively accelerating. I wish there was an easy way to replace 5th gear in the tranny to a more even step up. Then the only thing needed would be an "overdrive off" button like a lot of older cars used to have.

The secondary problem is the fact that the TCU attempts to get to 6th gear as quickly as possible (regardless of your overall speed). This is why "ECT" mode helps because it extends how long it takes for the tranny to get to 6th. I assume that Toyota caved to the "Environmental Wackos" and tuned our trucks to focus on lower emissions (lower RPM = lower emissions).

What is really frustrating is that my wife has a 2014 Hyundai Sante Fe (basically a mini-van) with a V6 that absolutely "runs circles" around my truck in every way! Smooth, effortless, shifting. Ample power on demand.

For the first time in over 35 years, I am seriously looking to unload my Toyota truck for a better alternative (if one even exists) because Toyota f*cked this one up so badly!

Dude, you have S mode. Modern version of OD button. RTFM..

 

I have the TSB and run 87 Base. The reset will not clear the TSB.
