    • [IMG] Stopping Procedure

Learn the proper procedure for bringing your vehicle to a safe stop if you experience a sticking accelerator pedal.
To address the risk of floor mat entrapment of accelerator pedals in certain Toyota models, Toyota is conducting a safety recall of those models. It also issued a consumer safety advisory on September 29, 2009 with respect to this issue.

    What you should do:

    • Owners of vehicles covered by the floor mat recall should take out any removable driver's floor mat and not replace it with any other floor mat until they receive the vehicle-based remedy.
    • After you receive a notification from Toyota that the recall remedy for your vehicle is available, you should take your vehicle to an authorized Toyota dealer. Dealer personnel have been specially trained to implement the following vehicle-based remedy:
The shape of the accelerator pedal will be reconfigured to address the risk of floor mat entrapment. For the Camry and Avalon models involved, the shape of the floor surface underneath will also be reconfigured to increase the space between the accelerator pedal and the floor.

    Thats what i did !
but then i took my truck in for a oil change
and they cut my pedal. and install a brake override also.

Pedal doesnt really feel any different. Havent tried to test brake overide

Its ok, I told him i received my notification and i didnt want my pedal cut
Should of seen the look on his face,
i think many of service personel hate this website for teaching us so much
But when he mentioned the brake overide, i said go ahead and do it.

I just got my Tacoma 2006 from my Toyota dealer recall service. Yes, they shaved a little bit my gas pedal and moved it to the right. Reprogrammed the computer unit to add the brake overide which It is a plus on this recall. I already tested on the road and I like it. Also, I got a new weathertech front floor mats at no charge.

My brakes used to stop or react quicker before they reprogrammed the computer unit under the recall service. Now, I have to press my brake pedal more deeper to stop my truck like use to be before. It is not too bad but I have to change my stop driving habit. I will continue to observe this new feeling on the brakes before I come back to the dealer for any adjustment.

Big bunch of political correct media hyped bull shit.

The slippery slope that started with Ralph Nader is now a full on avalanche.

Don't do this...watch out for that...beware of the other...

    Make me sick.

Funny how Toyota was the darling of the media a handful of years back when the Prius was gonna save the earth...and GM was the devil because they made big trucks and SUV's...then about the same time the US government took over GM...the media turned on Toyota quicker than Judas at the last supper.

    Makes one go, Hummmm...

x2 because I do not want to turn my truck in for this shit. I thought the gas pedal was already to the right far enough...but even more now? Nah, I'm good. I already have weathertech mats up front and have had the truck for a year now with no problems. If anything, I'll remember to switch in to neutral and then have insurance pay me for the truck.

    .

Be firm with the dealer that you want a "new gas pedal" and not a "hack sawed gas pedal" ... and some will do it on first "gas pedal recall" appt. and not make you come back again for a second complete replacement appt.

As far as front mats, different dealers are doing different things. Most (if not all) dealers are cutting in half your $125.00 all weather Toyota front mats and giving really cheap azz foam mats.

Some dealers have given WeatherTech (both types) for the front. IMO, one of the WeatherTech models is very close to Toyota's recalled mats.

It all depends on who you talk to, at what dealer and how firm you are and what you put in writing to the service reps. BEFORE they start working on YOUR truck.

I am a big Toyota Fan ... BUT ... It is YOUR TRUCK ... don't be shy .... Toyota owes you a NEW gas pedal and NEW mats of equal value. They should not make you come back several times for a one time service job.

That Floormat recall is a bunch of BS. It's a PR thing for a non existent problem. I have had a very thick aftermarket rubber mat in my Tacoma for years. Am i worried about it getting stuck? Hell no!

Mine is in today for the rear spring TSB. I put a big piece of duct tape over the gas pedal with "DO NOT TRIM THIS PEDAL!" written in sharpie. We'll see if they can read or not.

The original problem was that people were leaving their carpeted floor mats in and putting rubber mats on top. This wouldn't be a problem with a pivoting pedal, which is more expensive to produce.
Toyota cheaper out. So, one mat at a time. You'll be fine.

Maybe true. Although some people are brain dead from the jump.

As I understand it a few idiots with a Lexus and a Camry had zero brains and allowed their floor mats to interfere with the accelerator pedal...or so the lawyers representing them say...and it caused accidents. Too many people own an automobile who are clueless.

Of course the lawyers are gonna find something to get their client a settlement.

Then at about this same time...the Obama administration decided to take over a majority share of GM...so it played right into the hands of the media (whom most are in the tank for Obama to begin with, and will do almost anything to help his cause...which, btw, is completely against the constitutional rights given to the free press...but I digress...)

Perfect oppertunity to put the brakes on Toyota (with media slander) who had just passed GM in market share. And this just can't happen to GM and their union workers. Remember, GM is "too big to fail"

So, Toyota...in an effort to save face...money...and of course market share...went on a broad brush stroke campaign to "fix" the problem. A problem that in most cases did not and does not exist.

    It all comes down to:
    Politics
    Political correctness
    Media Hype
    Lawyers
    Activist Judges
    Frivolous lawsuits
    Corporate shakedown
    Government over reaching power

Folks...this ain't your fathers America. (well, actually for some you younger folks it may be...but for us born before 1960...it sure as shit ain't)

And this is as deep into the political poop I'll step. I do not like politics or politicians...Crooks and power greedy bastards all of them.

I don't see how this relates to floor mats. What stinks is that toyota is not going the extra mile. i.e. carpet clean if it needs it and only all weather mats get replaced.

They should not hesitate to carpet clean the carpet and replace ALL mats. I have the crummy carpeted ones.

Larry is pretty close on this... a Lexus loaner car from a San Diego area dealership had two floor mats on the drivers side... one on top of the other. The previous person who had used that loaner even complained to the dealer about the accelerator (gas pedal) getting caught by the floor mat. NOTHING was done. The next user of the loaner was a CHP officer, and still couldn't figure how to stop the runaway car.... he and his passengers (family) all died when the loaner car crashed at the end of the freeway (Ca #125) in Santee, CA.

This was all reported on the news down here.
