my soon to be ex brother in law does commercial in the DC area. made some buku bucks right after he got his jouneymen program (i think thats the correct one). I just dont know if i want to relearn electric thoery and all that again. i data dumped so much after my training since i dont really need to know it for me job. its becoming so easy now adays. most stuff i cant even open, if its broken send the entire thing back to be replaced whereas before, i could do circuit replacements and such.

Definitely like that part of my job. We don't have replacements for a lot of stuff, the corporate world always wants to run as lean as possible. Its nice to be able to hand on troubleshoot and get things working in strange and unusual ways. I work half shift half maintenance so its a nice split. Doesn't matter how long you've been out for theory is like riding a bike. It takes a few to get into it again but once you do a few equations and get your brain working again you'd be sailing.

that would be nice, i like coming up with ways to fix things. its mostly what my current job is. but at the same time. been doing it so long, and i prefer to do installs mostly. had the chance to install a complete electronics package on a fishing boat that was bought brand new from factory for moral at a old unit. loved it. i just dont know. too many options out there. but i do want to have some things ready to go for when i get out. my plan is to retire in 8 years. take a few months off possibily, then find something again. and now the location i go is up to me. just not california. or new york... haha

My dad is actually an Electronic tech that specializes in marine as well. Has owned his company on Vancouver Island for 36 years. Mostly working for the commercial fisheries out there but also outfitting local fishing resorts, contracts with the coast guard and military as well. He's done pretty well for himself. He's 69 and still running it. Really looking to get out now though.

He enjoys the social aspect of dealing with customers. Good or bad he said it's the one thing he's going to miss when he hands over the keys.

Dad must be a people person. i can only deal with so much stupid. haha. im a better behind the scenes person or limited face to face time. 12 years in the military has given me the lack of control between my brain and mouth.

You'd fit in at a place like where I work. Small group of electricians, tight group, watch each others backs.

Well that's a good deal then. Honestly the cost of living in Alberta is rediculous and only getting higher. And the oil boom of early years is deader than dead and probably never returning at the current rate. We have a soft prime minister who cares more about Quebec than the rest of Canada. It's not looking too hot here right now.

thats sad. I use to live in alaska so i know all about high cost of living. i do miss it sometimes though. or mostly just the fact of having seasons. FL does not do seasons. you have: cold 9mid 40s in winter, then hot, dreadfully hot, back to hot, then "winter" again. with rainy season being summer due to hurricanes/tropical storms.

lol that's pretty brutal too yep. Our winter just ended. Today is the first day we've seen 70 since what feels like October. It's been pretty cold, we even had snow last week.
