Just look at the build thread
Who here has had their 1st gen repainted? Mine is in need of a paint job and I'd like to know what others have paid to have their truck painted. Is it anymore expensive to change the color from stock if having the whole truck painted? Mine is currently white but if really like to change it to green like my previous Tacoma. Thanks for any insight. Never had to paint a vehicle before so just trying to learn.

1,000-8,000. Prices are going to vary from shop to shop. It’ll all depend on the quality of paint job you want. Call around and get some quotes.

I paid about 1300 for mine. Went from green to metallic dark grey.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Well considering the cost of painting a vehicle is HIGHLY dependent on the condition of that vehicle... It would be helpful to see what YOUR white Tacoma looks like.

And yes, a color change is quite a bit more expensive. Done right requires a lot more disassembly and prep time. You're painting under hood, door jams (and in to interior), bed has to come away from cab etc.

To REALLY do a color change correctly, you have to pull the motor.

This ^ I would be less likely to change color if its outrageous but I also need body work done if I repaint.

before and after pics would be helpful !!!
    $1300 is that it?!?
I had my truck estimated for color change (too many black trucks (all makes) in my town) as best they could and it was $11k at least and did not include engine compartment
this is the top autobody shop in my town fwiw
the color I was choosing has not been seen on a Toyota truck since '95

You get what you pay for with paint. A $1,300 paint job will only last you a few years, this is what Maaco told me. Their most expensive package had a lifespan of only five years.

$10-15k is more what I expect for a proper paint job. I was quoted $9k by a good body shop.

As Texans we used to be able to cross the border and get things like this on the cheap. Now it'd be nerve wracking.

    4 run, 2 don't
    Only you can determine that.

What's your truck worth to You?

Some people would say we're crazy for spending +$6k on suspension for a truck that can be had for $6k. Let's not forget a nice Warn winch, bed rack, on-board air, all-terrain tires, etc.

That’s a very viable option. Wraps are far cheaper.

I like this post because it made me think about how much I just spent on everything. Very valid point

    :notsure: less than a $40k ~ $50k new truck
since your truck is relatively new to you I would give it some time to get a feel on how the engine is holding and when/if it might need swapped or rebuilt.
Do you know how the prior owner(s) maintained it?

what is the going rate for engine swap/rebuild?
some of these engines are achieving massive amount of miles

With paintjobs you really get what you pay for. The paint in itself is not that expensive, but it's the prep and labor that is. So, if you have rust and some bodywork to do, this will add up. Also, if you change color, it's more work than just repainting the same color, so this will again increase the cost.

10k jobs are jobs where they completely tear down the truck, like a complete restoration. It's up to you if you really need this type of job, but to answer your question, you can get a decent job for 3k-5K

my shop quoted me at least $2k to do just the box and tailgate, I have been on the hunt for a custom LineX job so it may be less since they don't have to prep the bed.
i have a nasty little nick by the gas tank opening area that they said can only be properly fixed by a whole repaint of the box
    touchup paint keeps wearing off

No way you can get a decent paint job that cheap. @btbowie ’s roof was like $700 only.
