Best Overland Bed Rack

If that sale lasts until the end of March when I will likely get my tax return back I will probably order a bed rack from you guys assuming the measurements all work out. Like I said, for me I need to load a bike so the only 2 bed racks I found that will work for me are the ACS from Leitner and the ADV SL Bed rack from Wilco Offroad. These are the only 2 systems I have found with the sliding upper rail. If I didn't need that feature I probably would definitely look into the CBI system.

Has the powder coating gotten better on the KBvoodoo? I keep reading that it is really the only complaint, so I am leaning towards that or the Dissent Off Road. I need something that will work with my Pace SwitchBlade retractable tonneau and over the cab height. Don't want to jump though a bunch of hoops to get it installed, just put it on and go!

 

Oh god. that means I would be left with about 13.5 inches of width. According to the Toyota webside (cause I'm too lazy to go out there with a tape measure right now and measure my bed) the bed is 41.5 inches wide. If I lose 28 inches off of that, that means 13.5 inches are left. My handle bars definitely won't fit between that... I think I need at least 31 inches for my handle bars...

Edit: It turns out that the dimensions on the Toyota website are the width between the wheel wells. The actual bed width is just under 57" wide. With that, the width between the 2 gear pods would be closer to 29 inches wide. Still not quite ideal for my bike, but much better than I originally thought of 13.5" wide.

 

I like it, I like it alot... I like the fact that they have a bracket for anyone that has who would like to keep their tonneau cover. I picked up a Pace Edwards retractable tonneau cover as well.
FYI.. the bracket to keep the tonneau cover will give about 2 inch in height. I have the 14 inch height (with bracket 16 inch) and 58 inch length..

 

I want a CBI bed rack but jesuuuuuus I don’t want to wait probably 2+ months for it to be made. Camping season will be over by then. Does anyone know if these lead times are pretty accurately on CBI’s website? Might just go with a 10” taco rack from kb voodoo since they have them ready to ship...

 

I have had more racks than anyone should ever own. Mainly because a friend has an Offroad shop, and my setup has changed up over the years.
Currently rolling with an AllPro Mid height Alum.
If you need a spot for kayaks, canoes, ladders. You may want to check out the full height. I just strap my kayaked to the Prinsu, but if I needed more space than the full height would help.
I personally don’t like my RTT sitting above the rack in my cab. In the south the trees will catch on anything sticking up to high.
A friend just got a BAMF Rack. I was very impressed with it. It was steel and going on a Tundra, so it was heavy as balls, but extremely nice.
Regardless of the maker, after all I have owned. The mid height Alum is the jam.
Truck doesn’t ride like it has more weight in the back then it should.

Edit - I thought I was done, but now the ARB fridge on a tilt slide will not fit between the rack and my Decked box.
It’s a never ending cycle of racks.

 

Right now the lead times are averaging around 10-12 weeks for their Bed Rack. If time is of essence take a look at RCI's Bed Rack. They offer a 12" high and a 18" high option. Typically 2-3 week lead times.

So I currently have a RTT in my truck bed just chilling because i couldn't pass up on the deal....even though i did it totally backwards and I don't have a rack set up yet. I was minutes from going to pick one up yesterday from someone selling from TW until he cancelled on me and decided not to sell. Was a KBVOODOO rack. Looking through these threads over and over like a crazy person I have a slight interest in the CBI Bed Bars....I like them I just don't want to limit myself for any future add ons I might be able to have with a full rack. On the side of a full rack....I still kinda like the KB VOODOO or the Max Modular ones they have now but more interested in CBI or a RCI rack. I just don't know what the Pro/Cons would be for each. I would ultimately like to get the rack that fits my application but without ever having a rack or experience with one I don't really know what to look for. I see that the racks look cool with all the Rotopax, etc mounted on the side but I just don't know that I'll ever get that much involved to need all that. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

 

I had similar thoughts when I bought my CBI bars...I figure if I ever outgrow them, I can sell pretty easily. If I ever go full rack, it will likely be RCI.

 

So you are running CBI Bars for now? I love the clean look they have to them. Do you use them to mount anything else or just RTT? I mean all the pics look cool with the attachments but honestly for now I just want something I can mount the RTT to. From what I have seen....if needed you can still mount attachments on the bars too

 

I am really thinking RCI rack too....I'm so indecisive with this man...I feel like I need a hands on to see what I would like but I feel like I'm with ya on your thoughts. CBI Bars look great and CBI Rack is cool but a little pricy especially when you add anything (Long Bed, Powdercoated) while the RCI is much more reasonable.

 

I mounted my shovel and axe to the outsides with quickfists before I got the Relentless bed rail brackets. Right now, I have eye bolts on the crossbars to mount my recovery boards underneath with cinch straps. Setup works so far...

Thanks for all the great info. I’m considering some kind of bed rack or bar system to transport my families bikes on our camping trips. We will be towing a trailer, and will have stuff in the truck bed. I’m trying to figure out if I can mount 5 bikes to one of these racks. I was thinking of mounting two in the sides, and three across the top. Does anyone have any experience with one of these racks, and several bikes? Are the any issues I’m overlooking, aside from the extra height, and maybe spacing between bikes?

Hypothetically speaking, what would one expect to pay for a fab of this exact setup.....

 

Man this takes me back. I paid around $450 for this rack, but that was based on 2018 material cost. I have heard material costs are significantly higher now, so I wouldnt be expecting to pay that. The rack has held up well and is still on my truck. I would find a reliable fabricator near you, bring pictures of racks you like, be clear on how you intend to use it, and let them work their magic.
