Yeah I could see where that would be annoying, thankfully I’m vertically challenged haha. I’ve got the back glass pretty well figured out, just need to re adjust some of the cables.
The side windows are what’s confusing me. I can twist and twist that handle and nothing happens. I need to get the screen off and just take a good look at what’s going on.

I definitely can’t blame you after getting the Flippac! Would definitely love one or a GFC

 

Clockwise opens them, but as mentioned, they don’t open too far. This is mine open as far as it goes.

 

Okay okay, now we're talking. That what I had pictured in my head. So now I need to figure out why not amount of turning that handle does anything. Maybe that plastic handle has just stripped out where the screw goes through it? Once the rain dies down I'll take a look at it. Thank you!

 

Do you have to push it at all?

 

I've not really tried actually, I do know that if that I twist that handle, the screw doesn't turn and you can feel the handle kind of "jumping" like its skipping some teeth or something, hopefully you're picking up what I'm putting down. The drivers side will move like 1/4 of an inch but that's as far as I've gotten it to go, and the passenger side doesn't move at all

I don’t think the load capacity is quite that high. I wouldn’t want to go past 200 or so, depending on layout/spread. But it is a pretty stout rig though.

Cant really decide if I like my shell or not. It's nice keeping stuff dry but puts a limit on what you can actually put in the bed. Didnt realize how much I put in the bed until I got the shell.

 

I hear ya. I ended up mounting a cargo rack on top of the shell. In the event I can’t get it in the bed, it’s getting strapped to the rack. Beverly hillbillies got nutn on me.

 

My old one had a bad regulator. They can be fussy. I finally was able to source a new one with good success. On my phone now, but will follow up with details, and other refub stuff I did. PM me if I forget....

 

Yes, please! I've been reading through your build thread to see how you've done in the battle with seals too, I'm about to start that venture once I get this thing painted. Man I really like my XQ but I would be so much better off with 100R so i didn;t have to deal with all this frame-less glass.
Actually, my local Leonard's managed to have a new handle in stock that the manager just tossed to me, along with roof rack end caps and some caps to put on when you take the bars off. (They part out every used shell that have traded in to them, they are awesome.)
But now I'm dealing with a stripped screw head, so I've been having some trouble getting the other side's handle off to figure out how to MacGyver a solution. (PO also tried to epoxy the handles on too....)

 

Here's the part. Not cheap. But not much of a choice. They come in many different sizes, and it was really a pain to try to measure my existing ones in place, but this is an exact fit. Once you get your knob and screen off, drill out the rivets, and I forget the details, but you can basically slide the mechanism forward and it comes right out. I believe I found some screws and lick nut to substitute for rivets.

Glad to help! When I pulled the old one out, it was clear the gear and cogs were just binding up at one end of their motion. I had already tried spraying a bunch of white lithium in there to no avail. And I knew that would just end up attracting dust and turn into a gummy mess over time. I wish the crank handles were metal. I tried sourcing some alternatives, but that was fruitless.

I also made a removable screen for the front slider to improve ventilation, especially when camping and sleeping inside.

 

I just got a screen kit, adhesive Velcro, and neoprene D-profile weatherstrip from Lowe's. The mount surfaces are not all in the same plane, so the Velcro attached at top and bottom, and the D-seal filled the deeper gaps at the sides. If you have a removable slider you can pull out and put on your bench, it's pretty easy to fab something.

I did this really fast in prep for an upcoming trip. If I had longer to fiddle, I likely would have tried a more traditional screen catch system, but some of the off-the-shelf stuff I got was just not going to work without further modification. The Velcro adhesive may become a shit show after a couple seasons of high heat, but if you don't intend to remove it much, or at all, it might be OK over time. I sold the cap later that summer, and it was still fine at that time.
