Funny you posted that. The following is my most lusted after bike out there. Never been able to saddle up on one to know how they truly climb/pedal.

I’ve actually glanced at the ones Jenson has. Definitely lower grade build, but includes a fork so at least it’s turnkey.

I’m glad to see that this is getting some exposure ... it was a big and dedicated effort by the folks involved. Feel free to share it with riders or trail groups in your communities.

I’m on the Board of Directors of MBOSC (not on the science committee) and we have a lot of informed members and riders from the natural sciences who know that mountain biking can promote trail stewardship and good interaction with the natural world. We also recently co-sponsored a “Natural History of Trails” evening of lectures at a local natural history museum which was fun and educational.

I've read the report and looked at the cited sources but i can't find anything about 24"-48" wide trails "fragmenting" habitat. I could see how a fire road, strip mall, housing development or 8 lane highway could do that but I call BS on a skinny trail in the woods fragmenting habitat.

 

My buddy was in town for mother’s day so we went for an epic ride. 2300’ of climbing and an epic ride down The Luge in Orange County. If any of you are in the area and haven’t checked it out, go ride it. All of the overgrowth has basically made it a tunnel with steep berms and blind drops, super fun!

 

I suppose it depends on whose habitat ... 24-48” can be a lot for small animals, or some plants which can’t spread across compacted soil. But I’ll ask and see if I can provide a better answer.

Needing to sell Asap!

 

I just installed a rear plate bumper with hidden hitch receiver. I'm wanting to buy a hitch mount bike rack that will handle offroad conditions and also clear the tailgate. I started looking at the 1UP with RakAttach or the Thule Apex Swing. Any recommendations on either or something else?

 

No bikes, just racks. Would love to find a way to mount these Thule racks off the side of the RCI rack if at all possible. Will be putting a RTT up top in the future.

You could call them and see if you could just buy the rack brackets. Then just bolt the thules to those.

 

Tried that method but it's just too damn high and too much effort to get it up there. Tried the rci bike rack but I'm getting tired of the front wheel. Went back to tailgate dakine pad.

 

I would do that too, but I've got a decked drawer system back there so the bikes won't fit under the RCI rack. I'm thinking maybe build a bracket that wraps over the side of the bed rail and bolts to the slide thing on the inside of the bed...

 

You got a welder? Take a flap disc and take some paint off the sides of the rack. Measure the angle of the supports of the rack from 90* then get some cheap steel square tubing and cut one end the angle measurement you took and the other side to be a half inch wider than your rack. Measure it up and weld them so theyre straight and square. Paint them the same color as your rci rack. Then bolt the racks to the tubing. All in cost would be like $20.

 

Awe yeah, got the XX1 stuff installed on my AL base Jeffsy. This pic was before derailleur adjustment. Still has the NX Eagle Crankset on it because im broke. Probably going to go with the carbon descendant crankset. Threw a Fox Factory Transfer dropper on there too.

 

Sunday was a beautiful day for a ride, until I flew head first into a tree. I'm not even completely sure what happened, but it will be at least 6 weeks before I can even attempt to ride a bike again. I have a cervical neck strain and broke 4 thoracic vertebrae, luckily nothing threatening the spinal cord. Today's PSA - Always wear your helmet, pretty sure that thing saved my life.

-- I had another rockshox issue this weekend with the ladyfriends bike, something that should be covered under warranty...but they aren't doin S&*T to help (and there complete lack of customer service doesn't help) ...fox suspension for life for me, will never buy another product from sram/rockshox
