I’d say it depends on how hard you want to go off-road. If you want to go do crazy rock crawling then I would definitely build up the Jeep. Assuming you are cool with eventual body damage.

If I had a Jeep and a 3rd gen Tacoma I’d go balls to the wall on the Jeep and do something mild on the Tacoma since it can get to most places around here without too many mods.

Would be light off roading. I actually am very new to the off road scene and figured I could sacrifice the Jeep for cheaper since I have the option at my disposal, vs my DD which is worth a lot more.

Gotcha, I’d say it’s a toss up for light off-roading. A stock OR Tacoma will be more comfortable and probably more capable than a stock TJ unless the tj has lockers. But the risk for damage is always higher off road.

Tj doesn’t have lockers. Was thinking about getting some light armor on the oil pan, gas skid, steering box and front and rear bumpers with some d rings. Maybe. 2.5 inch lift and wheels and tires.well now I sound like I’m going crazy

And regear, quick disconnects, and lockers

Like Tac says.... How far do you wanna go down the rabbit hole with it.

I do have a Jeep with a manual. Running it on forest service roads and stuff has been fine (Flagpole, Big levels/Bald mountain). Have had the occasional stall, but whoop de do. Even out in the OBX has been fun.

I purposely did a mild lift with tires to keep it there. That said, over the last 6 months, she hasn’t moved far at all and thinking of selling it. But it’s the play toy. Growing up can suck sometimes!

So, back to what you should do, is on you...

Oh yeah.. pic of said TJ. Haha

Haha exactly, I’d say it depends on which one you want to have the most fun in and not feel bad if it gets some damage. I think around here pin stripes are one thing you will have to accept for sure.

Jeep is 5 hour drive away at the moment so I don’t have a pic handy. It’s yellow sport. Not too crazy on the color, but was what was available when I bought it 15 years ago

Exactly. I wouldn’t care too much if the Jeep got scratched...

Haha jeeps are super fun. My friend in high school had one lifted on 33s and that thing was so fun to drive.

Your Tacoma has superior road manors to the Jeep, and the Jeep is far more at home in the woods than the taco.

I know, which is one of the reasons why I would like to preserve the Tacoma’s manners and focus on the Jeep since it will rarely be driven as an actual source of transportation

Is this group open to letting me tag along in a non Tacoma? As I mentioned above, barely any off road experience, looking to learn in a setting with experienced folks

When I'm bored, I scheme. Considering getting rid of the cap/prinsu/awning and getting a soft topper. That way I can fold it down for wheeling so I don't shove it into a tree like I have a couple times.

Would anyone have any interest in it at all? Just gauging interest. For a white long bed second gen.

I'd keep the cap/prinsu as one piece. Reason is I just drilled straight into the cap to mount it since it has a reinforced roof. I'd happily separate the awning though.
