Congrats. I have the 2018 version. I use a WDH with the built in sway control. The WDH helped a fair bit, depending on if you have air bags or non-OEM rear springs would make a difference.

4900 empty with all the requisite towing essentials.

 

I just brought home my 05 StarCraft CK19 expandable. Towed great. I had already installed my brake control so it stopped nice. Trailer came with load distribution and sway control. Nice set up. Didn't get pictures yet since it was raining when I got home. Did have an electrical issue. Popped the fuse for turn signals and my back up camera kept coming on when driving forward. Found a bad ground on the trailer. Hopfully fixed it. Should hook it up and take it around the block to make sure. Looking forward to when we go on our maiden voyage.

I was anxious to see how it would tow after reading lots of posts on here. I was pleasantly surprised at how easily the truck handled it on various grades and highway speeds. No need for a 1/2 ton for me.

 

Does anyone have any experience towing after they reprogrammed their truck with Ovtuned?

 

Finally upgraded the single Interstate battery to two Northstar AGMs.

 

I love that style camper. I have everything in mine even a cassette toilet and shower.

 

A word of caution. Setup puts a lot of stress on the front and rear walls, ours tore itself apart. Otherwise great little campers. Put thousands of miles on it.

 

That's a mighty big camper for a little truck. According to the model number, I'm going to guess 26' at about 5200#'s? What does that thing weigh?
Definitely need weigh distribution bars and probably a sway bar.

A couple of years ago I sold my 38' Road Warrior Toyhauler which I had to pull with a 2500HD GMC.
I was like a train going down the road. Could pass up everything but a gas station.

 

Really? I store mine in the up position. It that ok?

 

Just picked up our new NOBO 16.8, it towed beautifully behind the Taco with a husky WD hitch with sway control.

 

I don’t think my Tacoma will handle this like my 2500HD did.

 

Ours was a “ALiner” maybe Starcraft has reinforcement at critical points. I still would not store it in the up position.

 

Well shit, after looking at campers this weekend I had decided the largest I could pull would be a 17'-18'. After looking through this thread, we need to go back and look at some that are tandem axle 20'.

 

Tow what you feel comfortable with. But yes there are plenty of 19'-21' tandem trailers that can be legally towed behind the Tacoma.

 

I did the same thing in looking at 17' single axel campers, but after seeing others towing ones a little bit bigger, we looked around and found a 19' with two axels. I wanted bigger, but we still have to store it when not in use. Tows nice. It came with the load distribution hitch and the sway control set up. I already had the electric brake controller. You know it's there, but it's not a white knuckel ride.

 

I’ve towed trailers for the last 25 years, just nothing with electric brakes. Or tall like a camper, unless you count trailers with 150+ square bales of hay!

 

Ok after pulling this trailer in Colorado I have changed my thinking. Can you do it? Short answer is yes. Long answer is not for long. I have decided to trade my taco in on a F150 eco boost crew with the hdpp package before I trashed the taco trans and motor. Not an easy decision because I really liked the taco. Got almost what I paid for it on trade with only 12k miles for a new truck that pulls my camper like it is not there. No boundaries or limits on where I can go now.
