A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
There is a lot of shared technology -- look at Toyotas' TSS -- it is so close to Subaru's "eyesight" it is uncanny! If you have not driven BOTH systems you may not notice. Trust me it is true I have driven both and own one (Subaru). Also check out many parts and see how many are interchangeable -i.e. the tweeters etc. and etc.
So it is not just "profits" --there is shared tech as well. Need more - that little Toyota spots car in Toyota's showrooms -- is a duplicate of a Subaru-- especially the engine - it is a "boxer" !

Tech and platform sharing happen quite often in the car business, again for financial reasons. Toyota got BMW to design and build the Supra, to cut development costs by half on an expected low-volume model. It doesn't mean Toyota has a controlling stake in BMW. Same story with Toyota Yaris and Mazda2.

Wife has a '15 Forester as well but the 2.5 NA version which puts out less hp and is hopefully easier on the CVT. Getting the letter from Subaru about the added CVT warranty (100k miles) didn't give me a warm feeling though. We'll likely move on long before that. I'm pushing for the RAV Adventure.

I agree. The letter didn’t give me a good feeling. Means theyd rather deal with the issues as they come in rather than do a proper inspection or recall process. Subaru has also tried sweeping issues under the rug before to include the recent EJ257 engine class action lawsuit, where tons of STi owners had to fight to get proper reparations from SOA.

RAV4 has their issues also. I have a tacoma and have had several other Toyota’s. The corolla is only as good as the warranty lasts. That said, bye corolla.

I have yet to find trending issues with RAV4 transmissions, older or newer. The Toyota planetary CVT in their hybrids is probably one of the most bulletproof transmissions available today. Their new CVT for the corolla, not so much.

I really dig the new Rav 4's, maybe if they prove reliable we can pick up a used one in a few years. I think that Rav 4 adventure is like $38 K plus though... Thats 4k more than I paid for my truck.

The 2.0T they were putting in them for a few years had massive issues with consumption and knock. The 2.5 isn’t bulletproof, but it’s a better engine in terms of reliability every day of the week.
EJ25# engines have been having issues for years. When I had my ‘15 WRX, I couldn’t believe the amount of issues I was reading about for the EJ right off the lots considering the age of the platform.

...My 2007 corolla has 250K miles on it. Nothing has ever gone wrong with it...Original spark plugs, clutch, alternator etc. Even the AC still works. I change the oil maybe once every 20K miles and its hit 4 deer. Most reliable rig i've ever owned.

2 lifted tacos following a lifted Forester. I was shocked how far that little car could go, low end sucks but still capable..

The CVT transmission in my coworkers 2012 Subaru Outback with 118,000 miles just completely went out. The dealer quoted him $3800 for a used transmission with 135K on it or a brand new unit for $8 grand. The trade in on his car in good condition is $7500 so essentially it is totaled. He has a case open with Subaru and is waiting to hear if they can help him out at all. He got a letter in the mail from Subaru a while back saying they extended the warranty on the transmission up to 100k miles.... Even though he was already over 100K. Its ridiculous that a transmission should cost 8K in a subaru, not to mention they clearly have a design flaw.

Anyways it really sucks for him but it makes me feel a whole lot better about getting rid of our forester.

Yep I’ve seen this all too often. Hence all of my past comments in regards to this. Subaru should honestly be ashamed about trying to sweep this widespread issue under the rug.
