One key system

What the hell was Toyota thinking issuing a key with a separate lock / unlock transmitter. So late 90's. If i upgrade to a Viper alarm or such can I get rid of this configuration and go to one remote/key? Toyota factory security/alarm system maybe?

 

I have issues with the same .... the RAV 4, Corolla, and others have it ..... I am one to not like a lot in my pocket .... the fob is a pain.

 

I understand the problem with the seperate fob, but on my honda the key and fob is all one unit as in a oversized looking key. If the fob fails the whole key has to be replaced and its a dealer only item and they run about 300.00.. you can find fob only replacements fairly cheap online.
I will take the seperate fob any day.

 

Doesn't the Honda's key/fob combo have a battery in it? It seems my wife's Accord does.

 

Perhaps you can program a factory Toyota fobkey to work with the Tacoma. I have no idea whether it would work, but if it's the same type of system...
