I’m just curious, I have a 2019 taco (3months old)and if it were to be “totaled “ by hail. What would they do?? Would my insurance basically “swap” it out or what?? As stated I was very lucky that the storm missed us!

I would never be totaled by hail. unless it was softball size.
you would get a check for the value of your truck and find another one. you would lose money on the deal, if only dealer fees and taxes.

you need to read your policy to really know the answer

    Damn that sucks man.

The last time i got caught in some hail, I was driving off base and immediately stopped at the nearest car wash and waited it out. I got lucky.

@DSIM this could have been your golden ticket to the MGM scooped hood lol.

Lol I was actually thinking the same thing. Should have just left the hood sticking out. And threw blankets on the fenders.

No idea how much damage there was, can probably google it... but this was the size of hail.

I was there for the insane 1995 Mayfest storm. My car was garaged, thank ye gods. Mom's car wasn't. Brand spanking new Thunderbird V8. Car came out looking like a bruised golf ball. Some people talk about no panel untouched. There wasn't a square inch of panel that was untouched. They totaled it and cut her a check. She just replaced the glass and mirrors, paid off the loan, and drove it for six more years, because hey, free car.
Best friend had a T100. He wasn't so lucky, roof and pillars deformed enough that there was no way to fit a new windshield in. He drove a Tercel after that. He's still bitter about it.

I've played this game. Typical is $50 a panel. Done in an hour. It's amazing what those guys can do

If you caught dents on the roof before you got it in the garage, that's the biggest pain. They will want to drop the headliner to fix them. The other stuff is easy.

My truck took some hail 4 months after I bought it. One big stone caved in the rounded portion of the rear pillar. Looked like you hit it with a hammer, and the shop managed to pull that. I also had "3" on the hood, and when they got it under their shop lights they ended up pulling 13. That and a door dent cost me $150.

You'll be fixed up in no time. Don't take any shit from your home insurance adjuster - have a roofer there to call him out on any bs he tries to pull. No roofer present, no inspection!

I fix hail damage for a living. If you attempt to use that without knowing or being able to see what your doing, you will make the damage worse. A professional will charge more to fix a car with “attempted repairs”.

Mine got peppered with Quarter-sized hail last summer. The dents were not deep, but they were plentiful. State Farm estimated $6800 in damage, which included replacing the roof panel (cheaper to replace than to PDR it due to the sheer number of hits), hood, and right fender. When I got to the body shop, I told them it was fine to replace the hood and fender, but under no circumstances are they to replace the roof panel... either PDR the roof or leave it be. They did the work while I was in Europe for a couple weeks. I get back to find that they PDR'd everything, but left the roof undone. They were not willing to PDR the roof for the $2800 remaining on the insurance estimate, so they didn't do it. No problem. They charged me just under $4000 for everything else. I still wanted the roof fixed, so I waited until late March this year when I figured the PDR shops would be cleared out of all their hail repair work from last summer, but before this summer's hail season started, thinking they would be hungry for work and would cut me a deal. I found a shop that agreed to do the job for $2000, so I jumped at it. The truck is back to 100% with all original paint intact and total cost to repair was just shy of $6000, so I pocketed a few hundred bucks and didn't have to fork over my $500 deductible.
