Most trailers have this simple trigger quick release mechanism. You pull up on the latch, the ball lock disengages. You push it down, it engages.

But U-Haul has to be dumb and use this ridiculous proprietary square bolt design which is a hard to turn square knob that’s close to being seized from years of rust and corrosion.

I digress, towing is all about double checking and safety. I always jiggle the trailer tongue and make sure to try and lift it off the ball to make sure it’s hitched right.

When I tow cars, I make sure to get out after the first 5 miles and recheck tightness on the wheel slings.

All U-Haul trailers (besides the car hauler and dollies) are proprietary and manufactured by U-Haul. They don’t sell them when they’re retired, they cut the axle in half and destroy the box so they aren’t in the public domain.

Every single chain link, fastener, and inch of steel on U-Haul trailers are stamped U-HAUL on them. They’re hard to steal because they’re easy to identify.

You can buy the car haulers and dollies because they’re made by a contractor. U-Haul also sells their retired box trucks and pickups, sometimes just the chassis without the box.

If it’s no longer in the U-Haul fleet it’s either stolen or it has a huge manhunt out against it.

They don’t sell their cargo trailers. They will destroy every trace of it so the public can’t have it.

Has to be older than 30 years old then, don’t really know when they started doing that.

Their box trucks aren’t proprietary and they sell them all the time. This is only for their cargo trailers, car haulers and dollies excluded.

Ive seen one or two of the ancient box trailers being used before. Always assumed they were private property of someone other than U-Haul at that point.

It’s possible a few trailers may have been “lost” from their inventory system through insider trading, or a trailer black market. Or claimed as destroyed to insurance, yet kept intact.

A lot of those box trucks end up as gardener and hauling trucks at any Home Depot parking lot. It’s easy to tell them apart because you can see where the sun faded the removed decals permanently etching the U-Haul facade onto it.

I work right down the street where they actually do the final assembly of trailer and truck/vans. It's a pretty involved operation

Their big hub is in Pheonix I believe, almost every trailer or van/truck I’ve seen has Arizona plates.

Although the car hauler I took the 5-Lug home with was from Arkansas.

Well a mod made the image and put it as JKOs avatar so I'd guess one of the mods has creepy obsession with you. We all know which one too
