I dont have the experience to provide you an answer yet, but recently I was in the same dilemma you are in. I queried folks just as you are doing. I understood the pros and cons of both, but what made my decision was the people that use to have aluminum and got sick of taking them off to bang out the dents (some big) when they crawled or slid over rocks, they forked out the cash and changed them to steel. That alone made my mind up for BAMF steel all the way under my rig (being built now). This alone, for me, justified the steel at the cost of being heavier. The way I push my truck I went with the more protection. Hope that helps.
