I try to fly fish, ice fish, and ski as much as possible. Now that I've got my Taco I'm looking for any mods that fisherman/skiers can't live without. Looking forward to any input/pics you guys have!

I'm just getting back into fishing after a long time (20yrs). The Taco makes it nice.

For hauling small boats (or longer cargo), this was a nice mod posted by @YF_Ryan :

    IMG_20190512_110734.jpg

D rings on the bed bolts and bed stiffeners give a bunch of extra tie down locations.

I just noticed the hangar hooks on the roof liner, so I did this:

    IMG_20190511_142231.jpg

I have a flat tackle box and it hides nicely under the seats.

If you're looking for a fly fishing specific box, Rod Vault's are pretty common where I'm from. I know you said you're looking for cheap mods, but I bet you could build something similar to one of these guys. https://denveroutfitters.com

Not a Tacoma but this is what I have for my 12’ Jackson Cuda. This is the Boone Dox T-Bone bed extender.

Wasnt cheap per-say, but most of all my rods are 1 piece 7’+, so something in the cab or the bed wasnt going. I do have a 2 piece 6’ ulralight tucked away in the compartment under the rear seat.

You can get other (cheaper) types of bed rails and than just add your ski rack, but i wanted something raised so i can still roll up my tonneau cover.

On my old Tacoma i did actually have a much cheaper solution. I bought one of those 3 tube rod racks. Drilled 2 holes in them and used 1/2” bolts and washers to attached them to the track. If you drill the holes properly you can have the tubes angled so they arent sticking straight up. Than use some tarp bungies to secure the rods. Ill see if i have a pic of that.

Another vote for bed bars. Had KB Voodoo, but swapped and modified some Mobtowns.

If you need a bed extender, just go to harbor freight and pick one up for $50.

The T-bone is nice, but its pretty expensive for what it is.

Plus with the harbor freight one you can run it the other way if you want to run something off the top of your cab.

I want to follow up on my post. I say it wasn't cheap, but costs are subjective. My costs broke down like this:

KB Voodoo bars: $329 (mil discount)
Yakima Button 6 on eBay: $52.04
    Stainless Steel box pipe $10.99
    Stainless steel hardware: $6.99

    Box pipe and welded bolts
    ski rack brackets.jpg

ski racks bolted to the box pipe then onto bed rails

How easy is that to take on/off? I also have a cover that folds which appears that you do too. Just wondering the ease of removing that for when I have to load things into the truck and need to fold the cover back.

Amazon for $50-60. It’s also collapsable so when I take my 12.5 kayaks out I can take it apart and put in the the truck. It’s three pieces. Takes maybe 1-2 minutes to assemble

Edit: I added the foam noodles. Cut them up and zip tied

No, I only have a Tonno pro tri-fold covering my bed. I can tell you my 188cm race boards can fit diagonal no problem and usually have a few pairs of skis in the bed all season. I do have a small LED light back there to see shit in the dark during ski season.

Easy enough. I got the knob option for the rails, and the rails just pop off leaving the stands on.

The t-bone is very sturdy and adjustable which I have noticed is not always the case with cheaper options. It also accommodates 2 yaks side by side except our trucks would have a hard time doing so due to the limited bed width.

Oh one more that I like about the T-bone is the curved middle section. This allows for easy in and out access without scraping even in steel inclines/declines or ruts and stuff. I absolutely love mine. I may go out this weekend. If so I will take some pics on my truck.
