Agreed. In NEPA, with all the hills daily, (wherever you go),environmental factors, and the fact that I have been getting more city miles than I would like, getting over 20mpg makes me happy.

Honestly, that's why I sacrificed the nice V6 engine for an I4. I love the MPG more than the power as she's my daily commuter too.

They did have my exact same truck with a V6 for only 2k more... but I look at 26mpg and that makes me happy even if I get there slower.

I didn't buy my truck for MPG, but I am a fan of being as efficient as possible.

Yes. It is true that plants need C02 and will die without it and animals need plants. I certainly cant argue with that 2nd grade understanding of the world around us.

I agree with the wealth transfer part. We sell "carbon credits" based on what a company could produce in a year to other companies which produce excess carbon. It's just a way to help people like Al Gore get rich because we didn't actually reduce our emissions it is based on what we could or would typically produce.

To me it doesn't matter what they say on warming or CO2 etc. I figure resources are finite so I try to conserve where I can, less disposable items, less trash, and less energy consumption. I still live a great life but I go 0-60 in like 16 seconds and I pick up my trash when I go out camping instead of leaving a mess for others. =)

I had a 90 mile a day commute when gas was 4 dollars a gallon so 2 fill ups per week almost and around $12 bucks a day in gas/tolls just to get to my daily grind...

MPG was beaten into my head but I still need a truck for hauling otherwise I'd have something like a Passat.

I completely understand that. I wish I could justify another vehicle as a dedicated DD, but it is not in the cards right now.

It’s not that simple. It’s how the C02 interacts with other greenhouse gases (and the way levels have risen since the industrial revolution due to burning fossil fuels). It’s natural for animals to breathe. It’s not natural to have cars, etc.

    Start here:
    https://www.ipcc.ch/site/assets/uploads/2018/02/AR5_SYR_FINAL_SPM.pdf
and then move to the IPCC’s longer summaries. There are good classes on earth science at reputable colleges too.

It seems like the responses fit with the broad OP question of “why all [the] threads on MPG?”

I figure maybe there will be someone cruising this thread at some point, someone with the most basic understanding of science or just a lot of raw skepticism, and that person might be curious enough to look at those IPCC links and try to learn about why all those scientists come to the same conclusions.

We learn a lot from each other here about the technical details of our trucks and how to work with and customize what Toyota’s engineers have put together. It’s odd that we have more trouble learning from each other about the technical details regarding the impact of the stuff that comes out of the tailpipe.

I was told as a kid the next ice age would be here by 2000 with 200 million starving to death each year. This is much like the preachers since the 1970's saying Jesus is coming back in 1978,79,80,81,82 etc...

The problem is there is a portion of the population that preach the gospel of climate change while telling me I need to change my habits while not changing theirs and they want to take my money because of it.

And too large a portion that are simply selfish.
This is why sheep need leaders. You can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink. Your not changing your habits because of what someone else does or doesn't do, you're not changing your habits because in spite of all the evidence you'd rather look for any excuse no matter how lame not to. Some people didn't drive less during WWll because we needed the oil, they only did it because they were forced to by rationing. Others gladly forked over their aluminum pots/pans realizing every little bit helps, who was more "patriotic"? I drive an I4 getting up to 27 mpg and would gladly go electric or hybrid or whatever was available other than gas. Tried to wait for them but while an Escalade can get hybridized a small or even mid-size truck hasn't so I went with the best option available. I realize there's a lot more I can do but no one believes that stupid, selfish excuse, never did. It didn't work as a kid when you said "But Johnny's parents let him do it". At least be honest about why you'd prefer the consequences over the inconvenience. Climate change doesn't care about politics, it's politicians that are making it political. It doesn't matter what you drive but at least you can make some effort to drive it as efficiently as possible until something better is available. Crap like this is what makes me wonder if JFK's "ask not..." wasn't what got him assasinated.

All Gore predictions in "Inconvenient Truth"

    1. Rising Sea Levels—inaccurate and misleading. Al was even discovered purchasing a beachfront mansion!

    2. Increased Tornadoes—declining for decades.

    3. New Ice Age in Europe—they've been spared; it never happened.

    4. South Sahara Drying Up—completely untrue.

    5. Massive Flooding in China and India—again, didn't happen.

    6. Melting Arctic—false—2015 represents the largest refreezing in years.

    7. Polar Bear Extinction—actually they are increasing!

    8. Temperature Increases Due to CO2—no significant rising for over 18 years

    9. Katrina a Foreshadow of the Future—false—past 10 years, no F3 hurricanes; "longest drought ever!"

    10. The Earth Would be in a "True Planetary Emergency" Within a Decade Unless Drastic Action Taken to Reduce Greenhouse Gasses—never happened.

When the scientist can start predicting with accuracy and not by manipulating the data to meet their pre-conceived notions I might start listening to them but when there is evidence it is nothing but a money grab I will resist it, thanks for playing

That works for lemmings but not me.

We are the only species on the planet with both the power to destroy or preserve. Apperently there are some who still seem to deny that.
It's not a game and there's no winner. We have only this one place to live, why would anyone take the chance on wrecking it? When did denial of responsibilty become a species survival trait.
