Have 2013 access cab,6 cyl, auto trans, totally stock sr5, 4 wh drive, tow pkg, 57k miles, bot new. About 6 mos ago noticed a click/clack (think a noise similar to a torque wrench), every time truck reverses direction, and noise is getting more pronounced and predictable. Drive into the driveway forward, then when backing out applying brake pressure hear a click/clack, only one time. Start forward with no more click/clack until I apply brakes at first stop. During the slow down and brake pressure again a one time click clack. Each time vehicle reverses direction I experience the click clack only one time, then no more symptoms until direction reversed. It is as if something in the brakes, suspension, or front wheel drive assembly, resettles after a teeter-totter weight distribution effect. Pulled front wheels everything looks, feels great and tight.
Searched forum and found no discussion on this. Any one else know of this problem?

I had the same problem. There is a spacer/shim on the back side of the brake pad. I took it off, added some lube, put it back together. No more click.

There are many threads on this and I had the same problem. New OEM pads installed on clean brackets with well lubed hardware solved it for me. I assumed my pads were due for replacement anyway at about 50,000 miles. They had more that 1/2 the material still left. I put in the new pads since I had them.

Or just ignore it as it isn't hurting anything and doesn't make much noise at all IMO.

I had same issue and did the dual spring mod and it worked perfectly. The factory only puts one brake pad spreader spring per caliper, on the bottom. Buy 4 new springs and place on the top and bottom, and voila, problem solved. I cleaned and lubed while I was in there and put new guide pins as well.

Permatex has brake quiet to apply to rear side also. My powerstop z36 pads have a rubber backing. Another source of this could be slight binding as the caliper mounting bracket builds up rust/deposits in the grooves in which the brake pads mount/slid so during a pad install always chip/clean them out and ensure free pad movement. The posts above on springs/pins/grease are all things to do too.

My 13 did it all the time, got used to it. Then at 90,000 miles I replaced with OEM pads, no more noise.

I would think if you removed the pads and cleaned everything off, lube, and re-install, the noise would stop.

My 14 does this. It will also clack when applying the brakes after a turn. I don't think it hurts anything since my brakes are still super sensitive... Almost too sensitive.

My 2010 does this still sometimes I asked the stealership Last time I brought it in and they said that when you back up and then go forward it’s your brake pads adjusting, is what I was told

Hey 2wd, where did you buy your brake hardware. Will be doing my front brakes soon and will definitely use 2 springs per per side
    Thanks

I think it was Rock Auto. Also, the picture I posted needs one more box of pins to do the pins on both sides.
