We'll be camped at Marshall Lake. It's a 10 minute drive to the expo grounds and beautiful out there. Heading up Tuesday and coming home Saturday as I have to work Sunday this year.

If your looking to explore the area take Schnebly hill road from Flag down to Sedona. Good ground clearance is nice for the road but 4x4 isnt necessary. Once your in Sedona hit up Broken Arrow trail. Super fun "rock crawling" almost any rig can do and BEAUTIFUL scenery!!

Won’t hit up the KC party until about 4:30 but I may use some of that extra time to explore Flag a bit.

What is the camping around Marshall Lake like? Reserved spots or wild camping or?

It’s open dispersed camping. Nice area. It’s a “lake” but I doubt there’s water. Though I could be wrong as I drove past lake Mary today and upper lake is full and lower lake is actually a lake. I’ve never seen lower more than a stream.

There's a few decent sites near the Kendrick Mtn trailhead which isn't far from lava tubes. Plus a toilet at the trailhead. If you get bored the summit is really cool great views of Humphreys and the north rim.

I might be persuaded to drop off my glamper trailer at a dispersed spot for us to camp at off Lake Mary road this week... and in doing so, reveal one of my close to town go-to camping spots.

Literally minutes from town and not as far as Marshal Lake or the Lava Tubes (which are both awesome, but if you wanna be here for the Expo, might as well stay close to the Expo)

Looks like there’s a good bit of spots on road 128 going north of Marshall “lake” as well. That’d also allow access to the expo without ever having to touch the freeway.

It's all dispersed camping no reservations needed. Weve been out there the last 2 years and there was water, not much but enough to bring the birds in. There is a nice forest road you can explore out to walnut canyon. Actually thinking we may go out to East Pocket since qere getting there Tuesday and leaving Saturday this year. It's a pain in the ass taking the trailer out there so its definitely a maybe.

We can scope it out since it’s basically on the way up to Flag? Probably won’t be as busy Thursday either compared to Friday, which may give some site availability

So today I drove out to spot I had mentioned and I think it would be good for truck camping, but I won’t be pulling my glamping trailer out there. Lots of mud puddles and the road is currently a bit more rough than it was last year. There has been a bit of forest thinning activity happening out there recently, so some of the camping spots have been wiped out as a result. Less people though :notsure:

Marshal Lake would probably be just as good for a camping spot.

If anyone sees this that isnt part of the private message we have going and wants to camp, just let us know.

Also, looks like the weather forecast has dried up and lows will be hovering around the freezing mark all weekend.

Since you guys are going to be around Marshall lake and the AZT runs through the area, if you see some scraggly looking backpackers offer them a beer, soda, water or some snacks if you have extra. They've had a long hard 560 mile trek to reach that point
