It's a supply & demand thing, plus a little bit of nostalgia thrown in. I love my 1st gen, but I drove in a 3rd gen the other day & it felt like a quite, smooth Cadillac compared to my noisey, rattlely truck. And I know people complain about the 3.5L power, but it's a rocket ship compared to my old trusty 2.7 (no suprise). I could definitely see myself in a 3rd gen at some point. I still love my 1st gen, though, & will be driving it till the wheels fall off.

Yeah, that Cadillac thing is part of the problem. Trucks, *especially* the "off road" versions, shouldn't ride like Cadillacs. They shouldn't even ride like Accords.

My '17 SR5 4Runner sure does ride nice on the road, but it doesn't handle the off-road stuff all that well, because, it has softer suspension. That's fine since the 4Runner is a daily driver and tow rig for my travel trailer. It's nice they kept the 4.0L in the 4Runners, too.

If we're being honest, me either. I haven't been on it since well before my surgery. Needs a new battery but I'm planning a 2-3 day trip with some friends in a few weeks. Can't wait.

a 4runner might possibly work better for clientele, imo of course
...new neighbor across the road has a snazzy white 4runner, can't wait until I can chat him up see what year it is

is this ($15k) what a 2nd gen is going for these days with 200k miles?

Some of you forget about inflation. Also you get a lot more with a vehicle when you buy one now a days so that’s adds. For exapmle a 2004 TRD off road 4x4 was around 22k my 2016 Tacoma 4x4 sport was 36k which was around 28k in 2004. We get a lot more then 6k in features in the newer trucks.

It just cracks me up the 40k argument. No one ever takes inflation into it.

    That's a matter of opinion...
6 speed transmission is a "feature." Aren't they on like TSB #47 or some shit and have still to fix it?

Your particular brake system is a "feature." It's already had a recall issued.

The proximity sensors are a "feature." Also either had a TSB or recall... hard to keep track.

Seems like the "features" are just a pain in the ass.

Never had a problem yet purchased 1-7-16. I don’t have those features, except 6 speed trans which has not a single issue.
I get you guys love your 1st gen best gen(it is a great truck) but the circle jerk about them is hilarious. First gens run forever so do second gens and I bet third gens will too.

it would appear your truck is NOT a lemon
i do fear that there might be a TON of lemons on the used market in the coming decade :( (I am probably wrong, only time will tell)
just like my sister and her PT Cruiser she loves but it just won't stay running, yet I still see a fair number of PT Cruisers on the roads here

It's not a question (for me anyway) of dollar amount.

It's the fact that Tacoma starting MSRP is only $6000 less than Tundra, and $8000 less than a F250.

Sorry dude. That's WAY OVERPRICED for a mid sized truck... any way you slice it... having absolutely nothing to do with inflation.
