Oh nice, yeah there's tons of info out there to help you get started. It's another fun hobby I have but expensive as well. There are some sweet fairly inexpensive lenses now that can help blur the background like in that shot. Partly why I switched to mirrorless is because I found I didn't want to lug the dslr around with me on the bike or motorcycle. With the smaller form factor I take it with me more often now.

 

You get the same quality photos with the mirrorless?

Good point. Still on the fence on sizing. I’m right on the bubble between small and medium. One shop told me small would be best, another said medium all the way

Probably not the same. But a slightly lesser quality photo with mirrorless is better than no photo when I don't have any camera with me

Me personally always have liked riding the size up.

and i'm a little over 6'1", 33 inseam and i like riding a large usually (the size smaller). depends on the person and the bike, you have to ride em both back to back to know.. smaller will be more fun, flickable, light, and rails turns better, larger allows more room in the cockpit on steep descents

 

I say it depends on the specific frame geometry for whether to size up for down when in between sizes. I am 6’3” but only 32” inseam. Since I am all torso I used to always pick a large frame with a long top tube and stretch the stem length.

Now with many bikes having longer cockpit lengths and shorter height seat tubes to accommodate dropper posts, I am comfortably in the xl frame sizes on many where I should be. But I have been burned in picking sizing based on geometry specs too.

I put together a GF Mullet (post in this thread) that is a large, bought it based on measured geometry and what I wanted to do with it. I have multiple frame geometries that I reference when buying frames. That bike ended up so far off fit wise that I plan to take all the parts off the brand new frame and now I essentially am going to start over with something different.

So my advise is learn your seat tube and a general cockpit sizing you fit with and prefer, but always ride the bike. One frame geometry large can fit like another brands medium, and seat tube measurement for frame sizes 15.5/17.5/19/21” etc has become muddier in the past 10 years.

 

5’7” 29.5” inseam. Pretty equally proportioned between torso/legs.

Historically I have always erred on the large size when on the bubble. I’m just reading that the evil frames ride bigger (not in numbers, just in ride feel) than others. The closest evil dealers to me are both 3-4 hrs from me. One doesn’t have any followings. The other doesn’t have any small or mediums on hand to test.

 

I’m on the edge of L and XL of the Jeffsy. If I went 27.5 I woulda went XL, it’s what I am closer to. I went 29 and got the L and it was a perfect choice

 

I typically go down vs going bigger as I like to be able to throw the front end around more.

 

Good call, I took the advice of a local sponsored enduro racer and went down a size. He rides a medium frame 29er over a large and rides with a little extra travel and said he can flick the bike around a lot easier and its easier to jump the 29er with the smaller frame. After seeing him rip it up, I followed the advice

 

Yea man I feel vulnerable if I cant pop the front up into a manual...there are a few times where that can be key.
