Interior Door Diff. Sticker

Hello all; real elementary question but, what's the best way to remove the adhesive after pulling off the differential sticker on the driver door?

 

Goo Gone or similar product.

Interesting. No one here was messing with you. But, I did think you were talking about the metal door sill. I wouldn't have thought that GooGone would have done that.

Otherwise, just hit the door panel with some protectant.

 

I'll spray some protectant over. It's tits up though; discolored the plastic - not just a stain. I was just starting to get used to the plasticy 03' Civic interior too! Looks like $600ish will get a new panel. Good stuff.

 

I use goo gone for sap on my black fenders on my OR, it's never caused any damage. That sticker on the inside of the door panel came off without any residue for me.

Maybe you just smeared around some of the residue and it isn't clean yet? Are you using a soft microfiber cloth/towel?

 

Yeah, the little blue microfiber you get at Advance/Autozone. Just picked up the Goo Gone and towel an hour ago and dabbed the towel a bit and blotted.

 

Wow. I'm really surprised. GooGone is generally just a light solvent / degreaser. It is usually GoofOff that messes up surfaces.

With the softness of the plastic, it may buff out over time with use.

 

Yeah, Ive never damaged anything with goo gone. And I'm good at damaging things. The door panels turn blue if they get discolored usually. That still looks black. I think OP has stuff on the plastic still.

Not sure if it matters but it looks like you have the extra strength version of goo gone. I always test solvents on a hidden area of my work piece first.

Try to see if some 303 protectant will help reduce the appearance of that discoloration.

Whatever you do, don't try the heat gun method. Looks dead easy on youtube but its extremely difficult to apply just the right amount of heat needed to hide scratches and discoloration. I don't know if its the type of plastic used in our trucks or what, but the margin for error is like 2 degrees. Your panel will end up looking 50 times worse. Ask me how I know.

 

What does the back label say about plastic?

 

From what I read, its safe to use but you have to remove it almost immediately with light soap and water. Not sure how long it was left on for. Even if you rub it with a cloth, it's still leaves residue until its washed.

 

Since you have nothing to lose at this point, spray some wd40 on the door panel and scrub the fuck out of it with a soft dish towel. You MAY thank me later.

 

yikes dude, did you use steel wool?

on the reals, the interior plastics in this truck get damaged easily. My glovebox has similar marks from people's knees.
