Are you sure yours is an LSD. I thought they only came on the TRD Sport from 05-08 before the switch to all the electronic wizardry
I think they do but it's uber expensive because there is something different about the 3rd member. Or that's what I remembered reading it didn't pertain to me so I didn't dive to deeply into it.

What’s this worth ? 98 4x4 , 5sp , 2.7, 232k miles, new clutch, new slave cylinder, new master cylinder, exhaust manifold, muffler, radiator, valve cover gasket, tune up. It’s a southern truck so no rust on body & very little surface rust on the frame.2CB3FDD7-FBFE-4081-BF69-698BA17FE4EC.jpg

Maybe 5g. Is that an SR or SR5? What other body damage is there it looks like it has some repair on that rear bedside and quite a bit of peeling clear coat. Have you driven it and checked out everything to see if there is some more maintenance items or repairs that need to be done?

Yea the father in law backed into it, they had a body shop to fix it correctly but didn’t have it painted because they didn’t want to repaint the whole truck. I’ve crawled under it and looked at it but haven’t driven it yet.

    4500 is a fair price.

I don’t personally know him but he lives right down the road from me. He said he would take $4k for it I just wanted to see if it was worth it with the miles.

Nice. I know I’ve toyed around with the idea of getting a regular cab pretaco but my bf won’t fit. He’s only six inches taller than me.

If you want a locker and are going the route of a detroit or ARB they replace the carrier so no need to buy one but if you go the route of a lunchbox like a lockrite then you'll need the carrier since all it does is replace the spider gears. Also you will need to check your gear pattern and what not after replacing a carrier as it may shift a little and you may need to get it back right.

Yeah, they came in a lot of sr5 too. Dealer could request them or it was in a #8 standard sr5 package. Toyota owners says my truck was a #2 package with factory lsd and a few other add ons.

And thanks for the heads up on the carrier and locker. I kinda know what's involved, as much as one can without doing one. Have watched a few videos, plus @Matic has done his so I can probably pic his brain. Lol

I was considering it a while ago but didn't know everything involved. But after rebuilding my glass lathe I'm confident with most stuff now.

I think he did a lunchbox but also he wasn't changing the carrier. Just don't want you to end up messing something up and then wearing gears out or anything.

Honestly, since you are 4x4, I would stay away from a lunchbox locker and go with a selectable.
I believe their is someone out there, possibly Eaton that makes a selectable full time locker/lsd.

Pricey, but you get the best of both worlds.
If you do indeed have an lsd rear, that would seem like it's already a pretty good combo with the 4x4 system.

Why not just add a front selectable locker and be done?

You either have selectable or mechanical/full time. Mechanical works completely differently than a selectable. You are unable to switch the mechanical on or off it's always on just ratchets when there needs to be speed differential of the tires around curves or something. There are a few guys that run lunchbox on their 4x4 and are doing fine. Biggest thing is keeping the truck as light as possible.

Eaton and others replace the carrier and it houses the locking system in the carrier there are also torsional LSDs on the market which are kinda a locker kinda not, They are less stressful on the axles and gears as a true locker.

Lock rite makes the lunch box style which just replaces the spider gears and uses a factory carrier.
