how to pre-order 2020 TRD PRO?

Vehicles today are priced alot higher then it used to be. This is not a business class so lets just leave it at inflation. Again, i'm not from the east but i feel safe "assuming" you've seen luxury german vehicles, high end trucks, suited up flagship vehicles I.E. VW Golf R, Subaru Sti, Ford RS, AMG, M, Raptors, etc...on the roads you travel. Maybe they are brought by the wealthy, maybe its purchased used, it doesnt matter they are on the road and people are buying them or dealerships would be out of business. Affording it can mean different things, maybe in your case you prefer to pay for another home or put it in a saving account idk. i also dont know what you mean by ignorant but if you want be technical anyone with a minimum wage job can afford a 800 dollar monthly payment, do they live with parents? in their vehicle? donate sperm on the low? idk, and is their business... so yes im going to say it again, by 2019 vehicle pricing most people can afford a 55k car LOAN.

Bad debt can mean many things to many people... vehicles just have a bad rep and in rare cases vehicles (911 GT, ford GT, BMW 1M, 63 stang, DATSUN 240s and lets not forget toyotas own SUPRA) are all appreciation assets. Some may even choose to invest in those vehicles to yield higher returns then a home in NC. (no pun intended but with 55k liquid you may have more favorable returns elsewhere than property in north carolina) again, no pun intended... and this is no business class... but wouldnt it be more ignorant to assume what others cant afford?

 

My point exactly. In this day and age, even most rentals are gonna rival a mortgage each month no matter where you live.

OP, in my area, if the combined yearly income for a family is anywhere near $150k thats pretty well off. Based on what Ive read about areas such as NYC, LA, SF etc, that barely puts you above the poverty line. By saying that ''most'' people can drop that much on a vehicle and actually afford to live too is pretty ignorant.

 

the key here is that i think you are right......most people already have a car/truck with 5k to 10k in equity.......its that money (ca/truck trade dollars) that go for down payment.....so mid to low $40s is about right......but, i could be mis-reading this

 

i do believe is much easier to take out a loan for a 55k vehicle than to negotiate with any bank on lending you a mortgage. So yes most people can still afford this 55k vehicle loan... how they choose to live is none of you or my business. One can be happy eating top ramen or filet mignon... we can sit here in disgust on how one can live but vice versa one can sit in disgust how we pull up to the scene? (COROLLA). jk... had to throw a joke in before it gets too tense in the thread... i love corollas. So lets all not be ignorant... you should call some toyota dealerships for me, and reserve a pro army green at MSRP and i can fly out to pick it up and we can share a beer, on me.

 

Min wage is $7.25 an hour here. If you worked 40 hours a week that means 2.75 weeks a month is going towards your vehicle alone. One Hell of a side gig would be needed to afford housing and food on top of that. And, its pretty safe to say your life would suck cause youd be working all the time. Got a sweet car, but damn I cant look at it cause Im flipping burgers all day and night.

And I do see luxury cars here, not a lot, but they do exist. Not saying they dont sell, just that dealers sell way fewer numbers of them. As I said earlier, I watched a '18 Cavalry Blue Pro sit for over a month at my dealer.

Property will almost always yield a higher return on investment than vehicles, usually much quicker too. The cities in this state are growing fast and developers are buying up land left and right.

I believe its more ignorant to assume what ''most" people can afford, especially since you live in a city/state with a very high cost of living compared to a lot of the country

I gotta disagree with the "don't buy a new truck [if you need to finance it]" bit here. Generally that's a good rule of thumb without a doubt but when you're looking at Tacomas the world is just a different place. I am not in a place to full ass cash purchase a Tacoma but it made a lot of sense for me to finance one.

I knew I wanted a 3rd gen and took a look at 2016 used. The TRD trims with 50k-75k miles on them are still KBB'ing for ~30k. Considering I just financed a brand new 0 mile TRD Sport with exactly the optioned out packages I wanted for 36k, it seems silly to think that somebody buying a Tacoma should go used. Granted, the fact that this market exists is a major reason I went with Tacoma..

Not just that. If you apply for a $55,000 vehicle loan and you already have a $250,000 mortgage on a home worth $500,000, the bank is more likely to approve your loan than if you had a $50,000 mortgage on a $150,000 home.

Fair enough. I should have left it at "don't finance a pro". The resale value is crazy high on these trucks and it's well worth the price of admission.

 

Yeah agreed on the Pro. I might even go as far as to say "Don't even buy a Pro unless you're the OP of this current thread, but if that's the case it definitely makes sense for you"

 

I am not sure but I just contacted a dealer for a quote on a 2019 OR Tacoma I am thinking of ordering. He claimed he would be able to give me a 2019 and 2020 quote so I could decide whether to wait...we'll see wha he's able to say/quote.

 

They don’t make a Pro MT AC so I had to buy a Sport and make it less Sporty

 

Why on earth wouldn’t you just go ask a dealer. I am pretty sure asking people on a message board who get you exactly nowhere

 

I don’t know that I would trust much of anything a salesman tells me. Particularly if I were inquiring about a Pro, which dealers love to treat like their Golden Goose.

 

A dealer once told me the off road didn't come in a manual transmission.


Do we need to go further? Or should we go ask a dealer on financing opinions too?

Better off doing your homework and talking to people who have actually bought pros in the area

 

I love mine. The suspension is buttery smooth and all that other stuff is pretty cool too. They don't make sense for everyone but they definitely have a place in the crowd. So I say buy them up but I also think everyone should flat out refuse to pay a dime over MSRP. Enough of us do that and they'll stop trying.

I thought Manual Pro's run somewhere around $42K?
