Its the traction control that really improves the 4WD... no matter what tire you have.

How are you averaging over 18 mpg... mostly highway driving?

    4x4 OFF-ROAD... that is all I need...
my first 5000 miles I got 17 mpg and drove way too fast for this truck on the freeway... now it has 20000 miles and it gets 21 mpg. I drive 75% freeway at 65 mph (I'm slow now because I got a ticket going 90 on a 65)... 25% city. I dust off the air filter once a month. Best I got was a Mammoth road trip going speed limit and got 22 mpg on 87 Chevron!

Yeah, mostly highway to and from work everyday ~30 mile round trip left lane all the way . Typically get around 320-330 miles to the tank.

2010 DoubleCab SR5. The dealership sold their last TRD OR DoubleCab the day before I came. I'm a little ticked I couldn't get the locking rear differential which is the only option I really wanted from that package. Oh, maybe the better seat fabric, compass/temp, who am I kidding? I wanted it all.

What, and he can't order another one in or do a dealer-swap with another Toyota place?

I guess it is too late for you since you bought the lesser model, but for others... the locking rear differential is a less of a big deal than the Active Traction Control that the Off Road Tacos have since '09. A-TRAC is like having front AND rear lockers!

Honestly, the dealer had great deals because of a hail storm. I opted for some minor hail damage to get a cheaper sale price.

Aren't those way expensive? I'm thinking of just doing some minor mods to get a more capable. I read up on the yellow wire mod and I think I'll upgrade the suspension in a while.

'08 PreRunner DC TRD Offroad here, got it in auto but wish they made them in 6 speed manual without 4WD! I'd much rather have manual, but have no need for 4WD.
