back in HS i drove some huge land yacht with 3 on the tree and we jumped that fucker over the railroad tracks behind the school. i think it looked about as ridiculous as jumping a Tacoma. i just remember that heavy ass front end smacking down on the road after the jump and all of us in the thing crunching into the dash. good times, they say.

It's just a thing for me. I'm holding on to my simple open loop EFI bike because is it dead nuts simple for what it is and still gets me 40mpg or so while riding stupidly.

It is not so much about how the gizmos work or not, but for me, about keeping it as long as I can. This will most likely be my last ICE vehicle. I will then go quietly into the electric future, hopefully in some neat 4wd thing.

my Volvo has that. suits the wife perfectly. she's a solid MT driver, actually, but when she's not in a MT she's a totally typical AT middle age female driver with 3 kids. my ass puckers riding with her.

I had a fwd car for a few years... never again.

people that complain about RWD are wieners and need to learn to drive.

i can have fun in any damn thing regardless of power, drivetrain, seats, tires, windows... don't mind the challenge. except one thing: i cannot stand an unaligned vehicle. nothing bugs me worse.

I drove my is300 (RWD, 5MT) around in the iowa snow and never had a problem. People just couldn't believe it. it really wasn't that hard, especially when that car had the snow button (which was actually pretty nice)

That, and out of balance wheels.

My problem is that having fun in a somewhat boring car either means scaring the passengers, or if alone, risking jail time for a thrill. With the Taco, I can be sedate and content at the same time. I don't even fully understand that yet myself.

I'm feeling the same way about this truck too. Maybe Honda will come out with an MT electric vehicle, being that the CRZ is available with an MT.

ive actually never run weight in the back. My trucks have always been double cabs though so im sure that makes a difference. Plus I'll just kick on 4wd and not worry about it.

My car the biggest issue was I most definitely did not have suitable tires for winter lol

Exactly. There is nothing superior there, just compromises and a cheaper car to engineer. RWD / 4wd is just better and traction can always be fixed with tires.

I did a quick scan of posts from Apr thru May and never saw an answer for you. So...
It's your automatic door lock actuating. Watch the speed that it happens at, instead of how many seconds after takeoff. It should repeat at the same speed, no matter how much time it takes you to reach that speed.

I'm so damned old that our driver's ed car was a three-on-the-tree. Our modern pickups were as well, the old ones were floor shifts with 3 or 3+grannies. The grain trucks were 12 or more gears, driving them all as soon as we could reach the pedals.

i'm not a truck guy and i rarely offroad or haul. i got the Tacoma to slow my ass down. last car was way modded up and made me:
    - neurotic to keep it right
    - broke
    - unfulfilled because a car like that can never come close to even opening up its performance on a public road.

got the Tacoma cus you can't drive a truck fast and toss it around at high speed. well, at least that's what i thought.

the difference now is i do much much crazier stuff than i ever did in the R32, and i get to do it at much lower speed and on in-town roads, too. the limit is findable with the Tacoma and that's my fun. i found the limit of my R32 probably less than 8-10 times in 136k miles of ownership.

i was talking the '79 Corolla I was delivering winter pizza in the early 90s and to get some better traction had to load the trunk up
have not yet felt the need to pack the back of my truck, the 4wd works well enough, if I had a 2wd I would probably bag it in the back in the winter

it was so long ago i don't remember what tires I had on that!

I used to think about the 1st Gen Insight MT. It was (still is) cool to me much like the Metro.

I like the idea of minimal systems. My ideal EV would be the Bollinger but no conventional brakes or 12v system. Just a high voltage battery and motors with heavy regen braking for one pedal driving. We are not quite there yet, but I can see that maybe happening in the next 15yrs or so.
