Installed 1.05.1 93GL on Sunday and cleared all values. Drove about 300 miles on a trip Monday. Truck ran terribly for about 50mi before it started to get better but still not as well as the same tune on 105.But after about 300mi it runs much better. I always run with ect on and it holds 1-4 gears much better . Still shifts to 5th too early but is better than before. It screams through 1-4 In Gl.Cruises in 5th. Very happy
Note: I am used to driving big 8 cylinder vehicles. However I have to say that, for a 6 cyl,in Gl mode this truck pulls pretty hard in 1-4 gears.

I suspect you may be trolling, but I'll respond with my thoughts anyway...

My guess is that very few OVtune buyers are in it for the horsepower, or that hp gains are any sort of priority for anyone.

The tune was designed to fix/address all of the shitty stock ECU/TCU characteristics that had many owners ready to trade in their Tacomas for something else entirely. The tune was designed to improve driveability.

OVtune very effectively accomplished those goals and the added hp was merely a bonus.

If you're in it for the horsepower, I'd suggest looking at an entirely different vehicle category.

I think the 93 octane performance tune was damn close to 50hp when dynoed. Check out post #1 in this thread

The other responses to your question are correct, but I also want to point out that tuning is how real power is made, with forced induction being the next step you could take. People spend just as much money on bolt ons for half of the power increase that a tune provides, and Mat's pricing is in line with what you'd pay if you bought an Accessport and paid for a custom e-tune, for example (not an option available for the Tacoma btw, just pointing that out for other vehicles).

Main purpose of the tune is drivability, with added power being a welcome bonus. Absolutely worth it imo, especially since some aspects of the stock tune are downright dangerous.

The peak hp increase is roughly +12hp at around 6100 RPM -- which is mostly useless for normal driving situations.

However, the differential along the curve ranges from +20 to +50hp, depending on RPM -- which is extremely useful in normal driving situations.

The same is true for the torque improvements along the entire curve.

Totally agree...many people don't realize that peak hp at high RPM is pretty useless for everyday driving. We might as well start talking about who go laid on prom night.

Sorry didn’t mean to be an A hole. If cost is an issue here’s a calc for ROI based on mpg savings. 0AB883F8-4A5D-43C1-A04A-A265B74036E5.jpg

It’s not about HP it’s about the shifting and torque gains. This truck really doesn’t need more HP, just better utilization of it...which is what the tune does

One could argue the tune is cheaper than taking the loss on a trade in if you are that unhappy with the drive-ability. No way you aren't at least losing 2k on a trade because the dealer needs a profit. Its a calculated risk on investment.

The tune is also cheaper than the TRD Exhaust and intake which plenty of people buy and they do nothing...

There are not many options for 3rd Gen power increases are there? Cold air intakes don't do much. The only exhaust system I've heard that makes a difference is Dirty Deeds. Pedal Commander, Sprint Booster & Shift Sense Pro don't create power. URD has his exhaust manifolds which are not "Check Engine Light Friendly". Same with Ovtune. The best Power option is Ovtune Turbo's. Now that's going to be Pricey. The Tune works great. Your other option is utilizing the power you have by regearing but that's a hole nuther story.
I hesitated buying due to the price. I also had to buy a laptop and figure out how in the world to make this happen (not very computer savvy) but, I did it and have had no regrets.

It sounds like you dont know what the tune actually does. Re-read post #1 and re-read it again then decide.
