I've seen about 50/50 for powdercoat vs. line x or similar bed liner for sliders. Can anyone with experience doing both elaborate on durability and price? I know the powdercoat costs around $200 and there are variables that effect durability. It just seems like line x would be the more economic route, and would be easier to touch up later on.

Probably something I should have thought out a little more before ordering, but with the lead time I wouldn't think changing finish would be an issue.

Line-x is best until you manage to gouge through it. Honestly black rattlecan is the easiest to fix.

I thought about that, but figured it wouldn't hold up well. It would definitely be easier to fix.

And lots and lots of sun screen. Lol

When I worked at Acura an older person came in and traded in a Mini Cooper S Manual convertible and I was actually kind of shocked at how the exhaust popped and gurgled. It was fun to drive but sadly I hear like you had said.. lots of issues.

If you're using sliders as they were intended to, powder will scratch off just as quickly as paint. If you just wanted heavy duty steps, powder will be maintenance free.

If I were to do it again, I would order them bare, and prepped, prime and paint with rattle can bedliner myself.
I know it's a bit of pita, but makes more sense than powder coat, especially if you get to use the sliders.
I don't have experience with line-x, but I've heard it likes to chip and peel on sharp rocks.

When I build sliders I will just rattle can them and probably throw some grip tape on the areas that get used as a step

Dumb question, but I have to ask. If the powder scratches off, will rustoleum then adhere to the bars/powder to fix it? Or would it not really bond? I have no experience with powder, but my skids are all powder coated. I would like to have everything with a similar finish. I also don't want to have to take them to be re-powder coated every year either.

Thanks Joe. I do have plans to actually use them, but I also am realistic in that I won't wheel as much or as hard as some on here. It is more of a piece of mind thing, and when I do decide to get into more technical wheeling I won't have to worry. I have plans, but the build is most likely a year or so away from 35's. That is when I will start taking vacation for wheeling trips.

    So are mine :anonymous: lol.

Although, mine are the older textured finish, which is easy to fix with bedliner
