Nah man you're good. Ive worked for the last 9 months on a boat in Alaska making 4k or more while also living with my parents. It's about 4k over what I'd be paying if I payed outright. I know what I can afford and what my credit value is. The smart thing to do would be to get my credit up first but I'm a bit impatient.

Have you thought about getting someone with good credit to co-sign? That would help your interest. Also it might be worth it to finance through a credit union. I know my local credit union doesn’t even check your credit score. They only go off of year and mileage of the vehicle to determine interest rate and debt to income ratio to make sure you can afford the payment.

Yeah, unfortunately everyone I know is a schlub so no good credit all around and I'm going through the credit union.

OK, sounds like you've got it figured out. Still seems dumb to me. Seems smarter to buy a $7K 1st gen Taco with cash, then buy everything you need in life on a credit card and pay it off every month.

Hey guys!

I live in Oregon in the Portland area. I'm looking to tow a small trailer or boat.

I'm about to make the plunge on my bank account to buy a used tacoma. My budget put me at around 25k -27k.

I'm looking at either a 2015 TRD sport, double cab, v6, tow package, 4x4, in graphite $27k(working on getting them down). Got a few dings and scratches a pretty good one on the tailgate and it smells like animal. It's a cpo.

The other is the 2013 TRD off-road, Double cab, v6, tow package, 4x4, silver, with a canopy which I want $27.9k (and I worked them down to $25.5k this one is much cleaner but not a cpo. I found out after getting them down to 25.5 they were initially referring to it as a cpo because I had thought it was. Then when it got down to it I found it was not.

I guess my question really is what do you guys think is the better deal? What's some things that are uncommon knowledge around those years? is a cpo gonna really be worth it? I can probably get $26k or less on the 2015. So I know the answer really probably is the 15' but I was hoping someone could convince me one way or another or if possibly I could get a few suggestions on a first time purchaser.

Thanks again for any who reply and sorry for the wall of text. I am anxious about all of this.

Is the value is probably worth paying an extra 1-2 k on the prive tag for the 15?

Edit 2: I checked reviews and the dealership with the 15's dealership has some scathing reviews about their service department and a few bad customer service reviews. I also didn't spend much time at the 15's dealership because I was waiting on my ringer. I have a buddy who sold cars at a VW certified dealership come in with me for the experience.

Edit 3: oops. Last update. I swear. The 15' is the sport and the 13' is the off-road. Im tired. Updated the original text.

Last edit: I've been convinced mostly through more searching and looking at just used that I'm gonna keep searching. I appreciate the replies. This process blows. Can't wait to just drive my taco around.
