Toyota manual transmission percentage.

I was really happy with the TSB tune (installed it myself with a borrowed cable / $15 for two-way shipping) but did recently get OVT. The accumulator delete was about $25 for a brake line elbow. Both transformed the drivetrain for me.

There are some odd inconsistencies between individual trucks. I understand that it can be hard to get a dealer to understand that.

After 6k (I think?) on the TSB tune, I had the battery disconnected when messing around. I felt a very slight difference driving around afterward, but not the significant change that the TSB tune was.

That is understandable and sad that for a Toyota they didn't nail it in the first model year.

 

Well I have a 2017, not a 2016. Supposedly, those are even worse. It's not so much that the truck is or isn't defective. All cars break down. It's the toxic attitude from Toyota Corporate, and the CYA attitude from the dealers. I'm just tired of having to escalate something to have a plastic joint greased. It's ridiculous.

Yeah, esp the very early 2016s. It is amazing that crappy dealers are around and corporate allows it. It's not like they don't know how to do it right since Lexus is usually ranked at or near the top. My friends' experiences at Lexus are freaky.

You are very lucky to have a good dealer. A good service manager can push through all kinds of things. I learned that when I owned one of the Outback's with the oil consumption issue. Engine got rebuilt twice before it was fixed, and he took care of the whole thing without my having to lift a finger or call anyone at Subaru. I've concluded that Toyota likes, and condones, the way its dealers behave, since their corporate offices behave exactly the same way.

Btw, what dealer are you going to? I am in the Seattle area as well and have mostly exhausted the dealer inventory here in trying to get my truck fixed.

Yeah, we just got a major assist out of Subaru when we were out of warranty. It wasn't even at our servicing dealer since they were booked up for a month.

I don't get the rationale either. In my mind, bad CS of any kind loses money in the long term.

 

I guess Toyota figures that they sell so many cars that there will always be someone else to replace you. And they're not wrong.

 

There is that, and the truck factories are at max capacity. Maybe they learned all the wrong things when pushing their Lean Manufacturing spiel for decades?

 

I hope they never do away with the manual. I love tacoma's but if there was no manual to even get, I might be more open to other makes. My dream truck being a MT Pro.. I might have to get one sooner than later. It was scary enough having them remove the MT AC OR configuration.

 

I predict that the next generation of the Tacoma, WRX and GTI will not have a manual tranny option. The next generation WRX/GTI should debut in the next year or so, 4th generation Tacoma 2022-23.

 

100% of my Tacomas are manual.

 

Why do you think 4th Gen Tacoma will arrive in 2022-23? 2nd gen ran 10 years and 3rd gen is outselling it. They aren’t changing things up on the Tacoma for a while, just additions and improvements

 

You would be better off getting a DCSB and extending the frame and a longer driveshaft

 

Some guy with "insider information" posted in the 2020 update thread about how Toyota was going to dump the current 3rd gen platform quickly. He did have some good info and some fancy model numbers and such. So that's the rumor. Don't know if I believe it though.

I think he mentioned something about how Toyota was aware of the complaints about the 3rd gen powertrain and its poor-quality, "off the shelf" feeling. I actually found that to be among the least credible things he said. Because even though people on this forum like to complain (take the guy complaining in this thread as evidence), 3rd gens are selling like hotcakes. And I would be willing to bet that Toyota Corporate puts more stake in sales numbers than they do in people complaining on the internet and to their service managers. So I would take what @Carmaker1 says with a grain of salt...

 

He did spend most of his few posts discussing the major push within the company to limit the number of platforms, so that all BoF vehicles will be on a single platform. Tundy first, then T4R, and then Taco by the 2023 MY. Just like Nissan did with the Frontier and Titan.

 

Because the current 3rd generation, minus the drivetrain and dashboard, is basically a refreshed 2nd generation Tacoma. I believe the cab and the rear doors are identical.

 

You are right. And I honestly believe that whoever that guy was, that he is in the know in one way or another. I just like to leave room for some healthy skepticism, especially when on the internet.
