So I bought my Tacoma a few months back. There is metal flake grouping down the fenders and hood. The front clip is also a shade darker than the truck. Toyota has offered to repaint the truck and bumper to match at a Toyota authorized location. Paint would be under full warranty as well. Issue is it will show up on Carfax as 'warranty repair'. The other option is that I would be able to trade it in for a different vehicle of my choosing BUT it would be a used car. What do you guys think?

Just get the warranty done and get a copy of the warranty documents. It's just plastic paneling. Should in no way effect value.

I would get it fixed as well. I just got a black OR and the front bumpers paint is kind of blurry unlike the metal body panels. And the bottom like 1/5 of the truck is textured right under the doors.

If you're talking about the texturing I'm thinking of, that's intended. The bottom few inches of the truck has a texture/coating to it. I've seen it on every Tacoma and Tundra I've ever seen, even new on the lot.

Sometimes the color will appear a different shade due the material (plastic-metal) its painted on. Personally I would leave the factory paint alone. That's my 2 cents.

Thanks for the info. Toyota has indicated that it is in fact a defect and would need to fix it if i want. Just curious if it makes sense or not a big deal to have it on the carfax record.

Take pictures and keep receipts / work orders from the work they perform. It won't have an impact on resale value if you can provide those.

Maybe the bottom quarter panel is darker?

Maybe but I can't tell from the photo. There must be something there as Toyota has agreed to repaint. Maybe I'm not as picky as others but if I noticed any pain issues on mine, I'd certainly ask Toyota to take care of it.

I wouldn’t hesitate to have it repainted. Looks awful. Future buyer might be put off by mismatched paint

My $.02 when it comes to paint defects...you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Living with flawed paint sucks. I had a 2000 Acura Integra Type R in Phoenix Yellow and the plastic body parts were about 2 shades off from the metal body parts...similar to your problem. This was when the car was only like a year old. I left it alone.

That being said, I've had paint work done on other cars and have never been completely satisfied with the results. I've pointed out issues to other people, even some friends in the auto body industry, and everyone agrees that I'm just too picky.

That’s true but, his is soo obviously mismatched. I’d take the chance. Can’t get too much worse than what is.

If possible, paint the whole car. Would get better paint compared with the factory one.
