True! I think the weight of the Tacoma vs the other vehicles using the 3.5 really is the handicap. Maybe the 4th gen will bring up some major weight reduction (hopefully not a unibody platform) to get the 3.5 more viable. Or they may do a completely different tune or as you mentioned, turbo the thing (fingers crossed). I have owned 3 T4Rs and I love them... but they are really heavy. A lot of people are complaining about how dated it is now, but I think the weight is the problem. They can’t introduce a new generation without getting rid of the 4.0, and maybe the 3.5 isn’t able to do the work on those heavy chassis. Until they figure that out, I think the 3.5 is all they have.

The tundra could potentially use it too... but if the little brother Tacoma is struggling with it, I don’t think even a twin turbo could help. Not yet at least.

Good points. I would certainly like to see the Tacoma go all aluminum. But, it really isn't that heavy from a curb weight standpoint. When loaded though, the difference is noticeable in both power and suspension. With just me, I can get it to scoot nicely. Also, OVT's FOB tune does wonders for grunt down low. I may end up going back to that.

The T4R has about 500lb more curb weight. That is a factor, but you don't have the ability to load it down like you can with a bed in the back.

It will be interesting to see what they do.

I would like to see a purpose-built Truck motor. Designed specifically for truck use with very durable materials and technology designed to increase longevity for towing/hauling. The design could be built to be future proof and be in use for many years and many different vehicles.

While I would love to see that... Toyota is not known for being on the cutting edge of innovation. They use only proven technology and are slow to implement.

DCLB sport is pretty much all you see here. Most popular configuration for sure. Quite a few DC SB off roads too.

DCLB Sport is by far the most popular configuration here as well, short beds are like seeing a unicorn and Access cabs are like 1 out of every 10 I see maybe but they’re mostly SR5’s and the off OR. I’m on PEI

Did you guys forget something? Dealers order what sells. 95% want automatic and 5% want manuals. I'm sure if the demand were higher they would order more. They are in the business of selling their product and will offer what will sell.

I have been driving Manual Transmission vehicles up and down Bay Area traffic for the last 15 years. What is so hard about driving a manual in traffic? I have never understood that complaint.

Yep, same story here. Never seen SR here tho. I would buy one if it came in DCSB MT and 4x4, so much cheaper. Hows PEI by the way?

You are comparing car MT to a truck MTo_O
Of course trucks tranny gonna feel a bit clunkier and with longer throws. I had 2 MTs trucks before this one, and 3rd gen taco MT is pure sex.
