TSS Recall -- New document from Toyota regarding trucks with "Pro" grills or lifts

DO NOT DO, CUST WILL NOT SIGN DOCUMENT FOR RECALL. Why would I sign this!! I didn't buy this fully loaded cavalry blue dealer lifted Tundra only to disable the DRCC feature or strip it down to a Hilux. On top of all, Toyota slipping what's going to become a huge safety issue on into their customers. Most of Tundra owners bought their Trucks lifted by the dealer and should not assume their unforseen M*ckups. Have anyone here read their shady Acknowledgment form?

 

Im having Toyota of gladstone do mine on monday as well. Did you have to sign anything? I have a stock height truck with a knockoff pro grill and im hoping they dont give me issues for the grill.

 

I didn’t sign a waiver and my service order didn’t mention any mods at all.

 

My dealership called me to schedule this a few weeks ago. I was told that they would look at the truck, see what parts they needed to order, and then I would bring it back for the actual fix later.
I really don't understand this as they can look up my truck by VIN and know what it has on it as far as the TSS equipment.
I took the truck in Monday, and after two hours was told that they didn't have the "pad" for the sensor and that they were ordering it. So now I'm waiting to get word that the part is here, and then go back again to have the actual service done.

 

it seems silly of them to not stock a recall item when trucks are coming in for the recall.

 

I hate it when people who should know waste my time like that.

Yes. I'm not terribly thrilled by this.
When the master cylinder recall rolled out, they knew exactly what part was needed and all I had to do was go in and wait for them to install it.

 

Ive calling ahead and have them order parts that I know will need to be replaced. the dealer can return parts over $30 for free to the toyota warehouse.

 

This bandaid shouldn’t be over $30, but it is an official Toyota part, so... I think I read that they have two part numbers actually for this. One for pro grilles and one for the others. Regardless, it should be hard to have some of each in stock.

 

For what it’s worth, I had my local Toyota dealer install a 3” lift on my ‘19 Sport and address the TSS recall (they put a foam shroud over the sensor and hopefully updated the software) on the same day. I immediately went home and replaced OEM grille with an aftermarket product , dropping sensor to bottom location (not a Pro grille but same TSS location). No lights, errors, working fine..I guess it’s dealer’s discretion on service recall and upgrades. I know that where I currently live, 90% of Tacos and 4 Runners are lifted and modified and the 2 Toyota dealers on the island have no choice but to ensure customer satisfaction... or go out of business. So after reading all these comments I still have a question, are there any sensors that are just okay and don't need the foam pad? From the installation bulletin it looks like all sensors got the pad. My dealer told me I was a "special case" and the sealer was applied, but the sealer is the foam. My sensor does not have any foam covering it. Was I just lied to or are there sensors that are okay?

 

Did you take the black patch strip off to unscrew the sensor? If so did it lose its adhesiveness much?

I went in and talked to a serviceman from my dealer monday, told them I bought the truck lifted with different tires and I wanted to swap out the grill but thee was a black patch on it that was part of recall. He said I shouldn't have issues with the and the patch kept water from getting in sensor. I then asked him if I did something g wrong if I could bring it in and have them fix it and he said yes it wouldn't be a problem.

Now I'm just worried I will ruin the patch when I take it off to unscrew sensor and switch grills.

 

Mine is an 18 Sport with a Pro grille. I have the same question. Recall was done, so noted on the paperwork. Recalibrated and said sealer was installed. But no foam covering is present. Mine is the old style sensor without the vent holes. And looking at it I can’t tell anything was done.

 

I wish could turn all of it off as well - but i don't want any indicator lights on my dash showing up either. Otherwise i would turn it ALL off. Not sure why Toyota felt compelled to put this on tacos anyways. I put 230k mi on my 2 gen, and managed not to hit one damn thing! What would I do without this LIFE saving technology?!! (sarcasm)

 

I just opened a case with Toyota Corporate, and have a meeting with the dealership service manager tomorrow. Guess I'm taking another day off to deal with this stupid dealership. Koons in Westminster, MD is hands down the worst dealer I've taken anything to.

 

True - but there are some parallels. But I think we get what he's trying to say here. He's focusing on the bigger collective issue that is the catalyst for why TSS type of issues happen in the first place. I'm fairly certain the average Taco consumer didn't purchase their truck because it came with TSS, which seems to be his point. As to your point - you can sue, as long as you don't allow them to perform the TBS. No lawyer in their right mind would advise you to sign that document - none!

 

Let us know what they say. Mine appears just like yours.

 

This may have been asked already, but does anyone know exactly what the software update part details are and what it is is changing?

 

I'll ask tomorrow, because I want to know and nobody seems to know either. Maybe from being disconnected? Just a re-calibration? I'll ask my dealer, see what they say.
