2016 Tacoma DBCB Sub Box Build

Hey all,

After scouring this site for subwoofer box dimensions for my 2016 Tacoma Sport DBCB, I came up empty handed. So I decided to give it a try. I have built boxes before, but not to this detail. I would say have approx. 18 hours in this build including wiring. Taking my time of course.

*Please not this is not a How To. These are my dimensions and what I used to get there.

1x - Sheet of 1/2" MDF
2x - M6-1.00 x 30 Hex Cap screw
2x - 1/4 x 1-1/2" Fender Washers
2x - 1/4 x 1-1/2 x 1/16" Rubber Washers
2x - 1/4" Lock Washers
1x - tube of DAP Silicone
1x - Duplicolor Bed Armor spray

I had to use a shallow mount sub as there is only roughly 4 inches of top mounting depth.
I went ahead and got the Kicker CompRT 12".








This was a tricky part. I had to cut out a square to account for the bracket that is affixed to the rear of the truck. I then cut out a separate square of MDF to recess the hole. Then if you look close, I dremelled out a section to allow clearance for the bracket.





The fender and rubber washers were used to secure the box to the back of the truck using the existing threads from the storage compartment that was removed.



I hope this helps anyone who wants to attempt to make a box for themselves.

I really enjoyed this build (my wife did not).

The Kicker 12" is a great all around sub so far. Its not earth shattering, but I am very impressed with this sub. Nice clean sound that hits all the lows and highs.

Looks great! I am currently doing research so I can get a sub and amp in my Tacoma. Did you happen to take the internal measurements of the storage space of the Tacoma on both sides?

 

Thanks for posting the box dimensions. Going to be making my own sub box over the next few days and your pictures provide a very good starting point. I have a 2017 TRD Offroad, so it may be a bit different so I'll double check the measurements and probably make a few tweaks here and there..but very happy you posted the dimensions!

FYI it's possible to get a little more depth out of your box with some creativity. I've got an Image Dynamics IDQ10, 5.81" mounting depth. What helped the most was taking out the plastic cover on the back of the seat. This is my old box, but same concept...

This looks great. I’m going to make this I just bought a cheap Kicker 10 inch 4 ohm from Beat Buy. I did the cubic footage and got approximately 0.79 cuft on this box with 3/4 wood. So 1/2 could give it a smidge more. My sub is recommended at 1.0 cuft though I see other subs have ranges with min .75 to 1.25 sealed boxes.

I’ll post my results should get this done over 2 or 3 weeks as it’s time consuming as mention above doing it a few hours here and there. I try to post a video on the install.

Any recommendations on Amp for a 500watt max (250rms) 10 inch 4 omh? I have the Boss 1100 2 ohm vs 550 4 ohm max in my Amazon check out.
