You can camp along the road before you get to the climb up the pass. There's BLM sites (The Ledges Sites 1 through 6? I think) that are some of the best I've stayed at, and you can usually find a spot the further from the highway you get. Depending on the time of year (like when I went in the end of April) there's a water crossing that can get to be about 2-feet deep. I've also seen it bone-dry. On the trail proper, there's no room for camping except one or two pull-offs on each side of the pass - I wouldn't count on them being available. I only did the pass, not the Chicken Arch (I know that's not the name, but I don't care to look it up right now) or the other trails that fork off it once you get to the river. The Pass trail is doable in any high clearance vehicle, AWD/4WD recommended. After the trail forks, I went about another 300 yards and already utilized 4-Low and probably could've used crawl control... it got pretty sandy. Round trip was two hours with leisurely stops and photo ops.

I'll definitely be going back to drive further when I have my merry band of travelers that will be able to pull me out of trouble if I find myself in it.
