Go with Rough Country, a lot of buddies now and in the past regret their pro comp buys

Can you give some substance as to why they regretted the buy?

Yeah man, I’ll see if my buddies still have the pics of when their struts bent!........but between now and then, pro comp for the most part is low in prices because their quality isn’t too great. Sure you’ll get the height you want but if you actually take your rig out and about their stuff is known to fail

This one gets ran a lot and it’s cheaper, and the spacers you could put on yourself (keep in mind you’ll need still need alignment obviously) then if you really wanted coils you could grab some trusty Bilstien 885s and still save money

I'm looking to buy one for a senior graduating as a gift. The pro comp I'm looking at isn't spacers. Its coils shocks and struts. Heard it rides rough but no one can give an true review. Be interested to hear what they have to say. And thanks for the info. I am not looking to spend a whole lot of money since it is not mine haha.

Personally I would stick with spacers and an add-a-leaf for that then!

He has spacers but the shocks are shot and he wants to get into trail riding with me so he will need something a little better

Bilstein 5100s all around is what I saw the majority recommend as a cheap option. I think you can also use your stock coils. Since you weren’t interested in spending so much. There’s a video on YouTube on how much lift it gives depending on the notches you set the clip on. I wish I got the bilstein 6112 though if I had the chance to re do it.

Yeah I looked at the billsteins but I would have to buy coils too and that's more than I would like go spend on a gift. I have my own tacoma lol. Its and older tacoma with 200k miles I believe and the whole suspension is shot. I may just go with the pro comp for him and hope it doesnt ride terrible.

Both brands are about even for the bottom of the list for most any 4x4 not just Tacomas

As a safe gift, I would be more appreciative on that money spent on leather seat covers and let owners choose their own lifts so they can't blame others for a purchasing mistake.

U serious bro? Do your buddy a favor and get him a set of 5100s. Sure it won’t “lift” the truck but you’ll be doing him a favor. It’ll be less $ than that crappy pro comp lift too.

My truck had that exact lift on it when I bought it. Iv'e since replaced the kit with an Icon set up. The Pro comp ride was really harsh by comparison.

"Bro" I know my options and know plenty about lifts, Have you had the "crappy" pro comp lift or any validation to back up your claim? Just curious
