Frame rust recall

The flowchart is in effect if the vehicle is otherwise eligible. I.e., 12 years from DOFU, or last Jan. 31st. That is the language of the settlement, no matter what the frame looks like. Maybe Toyota will be nice about such an egregious frame rot, but they are not legally obligated at this point. It sucks, but there it is.

 

Mine is still eligible for the CRC, but based on that document if its brought to their attention during the CRC coating that the frame is rotted out then they have to replace it regardless of the 12 years etc. Unless im totally wrong either way the whole thing is super confusing.

 

I didn't know that the frame gets replaced outside of the 12 year window if it comes out in the CRC treatment that the frame is rotted.

The whole thing is SUPER confusing, alright.

 

Definitely confusing and I had to read it a few times before it actually clicked that expired trucks in cold climate states have one more chance to get a new frame. 6 days left and counting at this point.

The flow chart is related to completing the CRC application on covered vehicles under the LSC-H0F. IMO, however I am not representative or employee of Toyota motor Corp, the step of the flow chart boxed in red specifically asks if a 10mm perforation was found during the rust removal process. If yes, proceed with replacement as outlined by zh6.

It does not say proceed with replacement only if the vehicle is within the 12yrs from dofu as out lined in zh6 just simply to replace it. It would be careless of Toyota to knowingly spray a truck that has such an obvious problem that was missed at a previous inspection. That amount of rust doesn't develop over a few months since it passed the cutoff date.

Only catch I can see them is saying it was never inspected when they where required to as directed by the court order and they can't force an owner to have it inspected so they aren't liable in this situation to replace the frame. I really hope this isn't how it will play out. That would revolve around the 3rd step of the flow chart where it asks if it passed inspection. If it was never inspected, it neither passed or failed. The owner failed to use the available remedy Toyota notified them about and that's not Toyotas fault.




@Dan496 if they won't replace the frame, tell them to spray it then. They can't refuse that.

 

You have 12 years from IN SERVICE DATE. They may do a "Goodwill" replacement, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

 

$135/hr sounds right BUT 3 hours for strut replacement when they are already pulling them doesn't sound right I would involve corp. or at least threaten to call corp. about that charge.

Only vehicles currently registered in the “Cold Climate States” are covered under LSC H0F (LSC expiration date May 21, 2019)
"Cold Climate States: District of Columbia (DC), CT, DE, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VA, VT, WI, & WV."

 

in my state it snows and ices a ton
we had over 2 feet of snow here this past February, snowed on every saturday!
after the blizzard they used calcium chloride to destroy the inch of ice on the main streets!
yet my state is not on that list and neither is IOWA
wtfh are I and any person around these parts supposed to do!

my relative has a 2o11 bot new
and i have 1st gen bot new and they are screwaround with this?

 

I don't know how they determined which states are considered cold climate, but I'm guessing its relative to the amount of salt DOT applies to the roadway.

 

the 2o11 replaced a '98 (bot used in 2oo4) that failed the hammer test after i literally pleaded with the pos dealer to check it with no notice sent
i recall the dealer had literally no fkn clue what I was talking about at the time

btw, you are located in a very scenic part of the country
i was on a month-long job in the Seattle area in '99, too bad the job came to an end and had to drive back home (long drive!)

 

My 2008 just passed frame inspection. Talked to the service manager and delamination or separation of the layers doesn’t count and they cannot get approval from corporate.

I thought I read here that signification delamination of layers counts as a 10mm perforation.

If anyone in the eastern PA or NJ area has any experience with dealers around here please PM me.

Its been 5 days now and no word back from Toyota, dealer said they would call me the second they hear back from them. They are also waiting approval for a few other trucks as well.

I will probably add 1.25" Wheel Spacers all around also. Ride and handling feel great! The only way I can describe the difference in handling is to say it feels "tight", quieter and new. No other issues so far. I am very happy with it!

 

What did they end up charging you for swapping coils to the Bilsteins?

I was I guess kinda?
Had my 08 coated and knew I had spots I was watching.
I’d spent a lot of time trying to maintain the frame but started too late. They buried it in black shit I told them if the frame coating didn’t carry extended coverage to not do it. After it was done (6 hrs) they said Toyota will do nothing else for frame coverage.
I was pissed I told them ahead of time I didn’t want it.
I refused to leave until it was removed. After about 2 hrs of me not leaving and chatting with peoples looking to buy they called the PD on me.
The suit saved my truck or I’d had traded it back so they ended up with it.
Guess they’d still have won but I’d feel better if they got stuck with the bad frame somehow.
Same dealer did the frame owner spoke with me and they did an amazing job for cheap.

 

As it turned out the 3 hours of labor stuck. 1 hour for the spring compression and 2 hours for the bearing installation, lift kit, wire repair on a rodent chewed thru air conditioner wire, a corroded tailgate lock wire and installing the aluminum skid plate. I feel it was all fair and also was treated great by Dave Hsu at Elmhurst Toyota! Kudos!
