A lot of this is becoming government mandates in addition to keeping up with the competition.

Not wanting features because of a fear of a future failure is like not wanting to win the lottery because a friend may ask for a loan.

Don't want them because I don't want a vehicle attempting to control itself or what I'm attempting to do. Don't want ABS to kick in on sharp turns, Throttle control to choke fuel when accelerating in certain conditions, lane departure trying to hold a lane when I'm trying to leave the lane. There are tons of situations that these safety systems can't account for and I feel that I am more aware of the situation and my own intent.

Fear of future failure is not like your example. Winning the lottery we still have the choice to tell said friend "NO" whereas with modern computerized vehicles and software copyrights (GM and John Deere for example), most of us are forced into taking the vehicle in for repairs when they fail, which they will. The more complicated you make things the greater your risk for problems.

Simply put, all these gadgets are implemented or deemed necessary because people are lazy and don't pay attention.

they will never put the same features in a toyota that they have in a lexus (unless they are years apart and lexus has added even newer tech).
to do so would defeat the purpose of the more luxurious brand. The same goes for features in the larger trucks. i would love a full glass power rear window, but why would toyota put that feature in a "cheaper" (air quotes) vehicle, when it is giving someone a reason to go with the bigger, more expensive truck.

also, toyota will not put all of this tech in at once, because then there would be no reason to upgrade from their 16' to 19' because the vehicle would be the same with no new tech introduced. all new features are purposefully spread out over years. they knew in 2015 that they would make the power sliding window for the 2017 model, and probably knew then (in 2015) that they would make the power seats for the 2020 refresh (and it has been confirmed if you weren't sure). Also, I read somewhere on the forum, that they are already working on a complete redesign of the mid size lineup and that it should be out by 22' or 23' and that it will be for a new global platform.

The point being, if they used to panaramic cameras to do more than just show the driver a picture, it wouldn't be done in this model year, it would be done at a later date, possibly not until the next gen.

personally, I like the idea of the tech, but in reality, the technology isn't where it should be yet, and most of the adv features I don't really care for. For example, the dynamic cruise control, which is pretty cool idea in theory, but on the highway, if i am cruising and the person in front is driving slow, I don't want to slow down to their speed, I want to get in the next lane and pass them, but I don't get that option with DCC, mostly because it responds WAY too early (even when you set the distance short). (i have 16 so I don't actually have any of the TSS features, but I have tested them on rentals). Other technology like the back up cameras and BSM and parking assist, I think are must haves. My fiance has a 07 pontiac vibe. it is a hatchback, so basically the back window is the back of the car, but its still hard to judge exactly how close you are and i wish she had a backup camera. (i know there are options for aftermarket, and i've offered, but she doesn't want them).

All this bloody whizz-bang tech and I still can’t get what I really want from Toyota. Not even from those hideously ugly douche-mobile Lexuses!.......a nice cup of jo......that’s all I want....a fresh coffee......c’mon Toyota!!.....the technology’s been around for decades.

Tech has become uber-reliable and durable. No moving parts to speak of which are the the cause of many failures. I'd expect a small camera to last as long as a door handle provided it's not damaged by outside forces.

Nah, what the Taco needs is a boiling vessel like British tanks have had for fifty years. All those lazy Toyota engineers need to do is convert the electrical system to 48 V and add about 1500 W to the alternator output to fit the part, no idea why they haven't done this.

I am thinking about writing a polite but stern letter. Stern!

I'm a real man. Dont you dare give me power anything. Bluetooth is for sissies. Leather seats in a mans truck is like shaving with lather. Whats the world coming to with this soft generation. I remember the days when they used to circumcise you with a sharp rock. You want comfort and convenience, go buy a Bentley. This is a truck. Not a Ridgeline. I want to be that guy in the Ford commercial, waking up at 5am and getting the hay delivered to the horses before the roosters cock-a-doodle-do. And you betcha, If I didnt buy Japanese, I damn sure woulda bought American. I'm that Japanese truck cowboy you've been reading about - through and through. My grandpa drove a T100, my dad drove a Tacoma and left it to me and you damn skippy my son will carry on the tradition.

We get it, you have a hard on for new tech. No reason to make fun of those that don't want it.

Just don't check the Tech pkg box. Its so simple. If you dont want cameras in your bumper - paint over them.

I asked a simple question, stated my opposing veiw point and all you can do is make fun of people. I'm fine with my truck the way it is, but thank you for the suggestion. Now how about answering the 1st question without being a smart ass. I'll even re-post it so you don't have to look for it.

Why do you feel you need all the new tech?

You need the forward radar because that technology has been proven to reduce frontal collisions by better than 60%. That is millions of accidents avoided in a country like the USA, every year. Even if you are a perfectly attentive driver, sometimes you are doing shoulder checks on the highway and a lot of stuff can happen very quickly while you are doing that.

If you haven't tried driving a vehicle with radar cruise on a long trip, you should rent one because you will find out that you are way less tired at the end of the trip, and you will want it in your next vehicle.

I don't think you need the backup radar if you back your truck into the parking spot every time. But many people don't do this for some reason. It is a good habit to get into.

I haven't driven anything with lane departure so I can't really speak to whether it would impede my intentions whilst driving.

That said, I'm ALL FOR sensors and input to help me make good decisions whilst driving. The parking sensors (despite being kind of redundant because of the camera), and the BSM are great and I am going to hate giving up my BSM for a metal bumper (hoping someone comes out with a solution to that before I buy one). I love my rear view camera, and intend to put a front camera on, and incorporate the any-time mod.

    /shrug

Maybe I just want a space ship.

I want my truck to be included in having the same shit other vehicles have had for years. And since these features will come in a package, I at least want the option of ordering it.

Having options is nice, just wish they'd keep it at options and not force you to have it like they did with the TSS system on the 18+ trucks.
i'd prefer to see something like an optional enhanced safety package where you get all the cameras, safety sensors, adaptive cruise ect.... but without tying them to the typical Tech package which is audio, nav, sunroof, heated seats and the like.

I haven't driven a Tacoma with it, but on my wife's Subaru, the lane departure only takes over if you leave the lane without signalling. Also, even if you don't signal, it's not nearly strong enough to overpower you. It's basically just enough to get your attention and kinda nudge you back in the right direction.

I disagree...heated seats and sunroof should be premium pkg (nothing to do with tech) stereo (apple play nav) should be standard on a $40k truck. Tech pkg should be about cams and automation and a $2500 option and a choice. Radar should be standard.
