The LED SAE J583 Fog Pod & Fog Light Review

This is how it is on my 4Runner. I know with the Morimoto mounts, they use the same part for Tacomas, 4Runners and possibly other Toyotas. The mounting holes on the 4Runner are slightly offset compared to the Tacoma, so I can only use 1 screw to mount the lights. Maybe KC does the same.

 

Very true. Now that I remember, the stock housing on the third gens is 2 tabs on one side and 1 screw on the other. So I assume the KCs follow that. It seems pretty secure. With the Pods, the two "tabs" are replaced by screws instead and then another screw on the opposite side.

Wow for that price just do some Dually's and put Hella Color Shieldz on them. That looks like that ugly orange color that comes from LaminX.

 

Completely too it apart, removed the lens and put it all back together. 10 minutes a pop.

 

They match the Hellas behind the grill, and the new KC G4's.

 

They have been ‘available’ for order for maybe a month, but still not shipping. I have yet to recieve mine.

The SAE selective yellow series lights have a real fog beam pattern with hard cut offs to work effectively in poor weather conditions and not blind other drivers, the other Rigid pods do not. They are the same price as their white SAE lights.

 

Good to know, just yuck on the orange color. But I use my Dually's as Ditch Lights actually pointing at ditches.

 

Yeah, different pattern for different purpose. The orange color is just the filter, the light output is yellow. The Hella filters on your Rigids are a good way to knock down the color temp out of that high temp bluish spectrum the white Rigids use.

 

Indeed and those H3 Philips Night Breakers I put in the Hella 500's are amazing.

 

Ok so I guess I might be the first one here to receive the Rigid SAE pods in selective yellow. I got them in yesterday and did a quick install because everything was pretty much ready to go. The install was super quick because I took my white SAE pods out to send them in to Rigid and have them swap in the new selective yellow components (new LEDS and a new lens). If anyone is interested in doing this, send me a personal message for details but let me just say Rigid did this service for a very fair price and pretty quick turn around. About 2 weeks.

Ok so coming from the white pods with amber covers on them, the initial impression of these selective yellows: much more output, a more "yellow" vs amber or orange color temp, very similar beam pattern. On the first drive I definitely noticed these lights throw more on the road than the white with amber covers. Not sure how much of a color temp difference there is but they seem to blend better with my headlights vs looking very yellow/orange on the blacktop. They provide a nice amount of light and coverage in the fog zone.

Super excited to see what numbers @crashnburn80 finds when he gets his in.

Nice! You are the first that I am aware of. I wonder if that has anything to do with your swapping rather than the rest of us waiting for all new product.

The lower color temp LEDs used with the selective yellow filter will definitely provide greater output than the amber covers over high color temp LEDs. Cannot wait to test these out as soon as they show up!

 

I know you don't have the numbers or products to make an informed decision yet, but do you think the rigids or BD sae fogs will have better output? I prefer the circular look of the BD but will settle for the square pods for better output

 

Yeah I was hesitant to post this up cause I know people are waiting. I didn't expect mine so soon but I guess since I swapped it's an entirely different situation/department. They for sure reused all the housing and external wiring components because I marked them with a few sharpie marks before I sent them in to see if they were the same ones when they came back.

But yeah really stoked to see the results when you put these through your testing soon.
