If you keep the extra cab you can make the Mrs sit in the back so the carseat is safe in the front

Bet she won't be happy though lol

I was wondering about that, are car seats allowed up front if you are able to turn off the airbag?

Gonna have to do some googling

The xtra cab has the car seat hook in the back but it's a joke to think that a car seat will fit back there lol

I rode in the front of the 92 in a booster seat, that had no airbags.

I think laws have changed a bit since then lol. I used to ride in the back of my uncle's station wagon that had side facing rear bench seats with no seat belts. Not as a baby of course but probably when I was 3 or 4

So the deal is, under no circumstances should a car seat be in the front seat if the airbag cannot be disabled. If the bag deploys, it can inflict serious harm/death to the infant/toddler. Since the bag can be disabled in the xtra cab, then its legally ok to do so but would you really want your infant in the front seat? For me, its a definite FCK THAT, he's going in the backseat and in the middle.

The safest place for the carseat is in the backseat , in the middle. Keep your kid's seat rear-facing for as long as comfortable for them - its the safest position for the car seat. In California, its 2 years old or over or 40lbs+ for the seat to be in the forward position. I kept my kid rear facing until he started to get too big. I think he was nearly 3 maybe. His car seat is still in the back of course just in the middle and forward facing.

With car seats today, I have no clue how they could possibly fit in the back of an xtra cab. I mean hell, the seat I have my kid in is about 20" wide. They're huge.

I'd just find yourself a decent used camry/avalon for a daily and put the little one back there. Hell of a safety record those things and last forever... just ask @Empty_Lord

Yeah I'm getting another ride sometime this year, just wanted to know in case it was ever one of those "this is the only vehicle I can use right now" situations. I would sooner rather find a tiny car seat that actually fits in the back of the xtra cab than put a baby in the front seat. Luckily my wife is small so she can sit with the seat all the way up lol. But I don't know if they even make car seats that small anymore.

But yeah the primary transportation will be either the wife's Accord or whatever daily driver I get next

My 7 yr old nephew rides in the front of my truck and gets a kick out of it, but he always demands I turn the airbag off first lol.

I rode in my truck with a booster seat when I was a kid. Front seat with the airbag shutoff.

My Dad immediately went out and bought a used Mercedes 190E and Volvo 240 when I was born so I could ride around in safeish things for the ultra vulnerable period of infancy. Previously they had a Tercel and who knows what my dad was driving. They went right back to normal less clunky vehicles once I was like 3 or so.
