The stereo display on my 2012 w/ JBL entune stopped working yesterday. The display works when on AM/FM/CD but not USB or navigation and Bluetooth no longer works. I've also lost all controls on the steering wheel except the volume control and I can't fast forward or rewind songs using the stereo buttons when playing off the USB.

Tried to disconnect the battery to see it it'd reset but it didn't work.

The owners manual is zero help and the CPO warranty expired 4 months ago.

I assume the stereo is fried and I'm going to have to replace it but thought I'd check here to see if there is something I can check before I throw money at this.

I am also having the same issue with a 2012 JBL head unit. The right side steering controls stopped working. The headunit Apps button and Phone button do not work as well. I bought a new head unit on ebay and swapped it out, but that did not change anything. I changed both radio fuses and the accessory fuse. No changes. I am going to comb through the forum and see if there are any other components that handle the phone and apps settings.

I ended up replacing the factory stereo.

Was that an aftermarket one you installed? Did all of your steering buttons start working again with the new head unit?

Yes to both. Went with a Kenwood head unit and used a Maestro control module to keep all the steering wheel function. Purchased everything (along with the wiring harness) from Crutchfield.

I continued to have my local dealership troubleshoot the issue with GPS and bluetooth not working, and it turned out to be the grey box beneath the head unit that is connected with a cable. I guess that is the brains of the head unit and it died. They installed a new one and it is good as new now.

Hey guys. I know I'm resurrecting an old thread for my first post but my problem is outlined quite well here and I'm just not sure I fully understand the solution.

    Here's my problem:
    1. Apps button no workie (sometimes will display "service not installed" error when pushed upon startup)
    2. Phone button no workie
    3. Bluetooth no workie
    4. Source button no workie
    5. Radio/CD works generally okay. sometimes I can't swap the source by pushing the still functioning "audio" button.
I'm guessing my head unit (86140-04060) is taking a crap. Display still works fine. I can't upgrade any firmware because I'm unable to access the "Apps" screen. I'm only able to enter the "System" diagnostic page (hold the button and turn lights on/off 3x). I cannot access any diagnostic function through the "Apps" button.

    Questions for you:
    1. Am I correct that my head unit is shot?
    2. If so, can I just replace the computing unit behind the display screen rather than the whole unit? ($900+ for used based on my limited research)
    3. Are there any other better solutions than replacing components?

Sorry for resurrecting the dead but "reduce, reuse, recycle" and all that jazz....

The dealership replaced just the grey box on mine that is under the head unit and connected with a cable. The original display and head unit were fine. I don’t know what the part number was off hand. Apps menu and everything started working like new after swapping that part.

How awesome of you to come back a year+ later and try to help...photo included. I really appreciate it. For anyone else that might need the info, that box is the Harmon Automotive Extension Box (PT29647140AA). Looks like dealerships are selling for like ~$1k but you can find it on Ebay for ~$400. Would be great to find it cheaper if anyone has any other ideas?

Update: Found one on Ebay for $175 +tax/shipping. Advertised as "lightly used". I'll update the thread once I receive and install to confirm fix.

I have problem with my extension box so I took it out completely because I don't need the apps that much. Now how do connect the radio antenna to the main unit?
Has anyone try the same thing?
